Pepon Surf Camp — Hotel in Máncora

We had a wonderful stay at Joel's place in Máncora. Joel is a good example of how a host should be: kind and caring. Also, the place was really close to the beach (2 min), but far away from the loud music. Joel would make a nice breakfast (including a juice) for us every morning, which was just wonderful. The only thing that we really disliked was the noise from the kitchen; our room was next to the kitchen and was only seperated by a very thin bamboo wall. This meant that we would hear every sound coming from the kitchen, and prevented us from sleep as people would prepare their meals at 0530 in the morning. I heard that Joel is planning on moving the kitchen out of the building because of it, however until then I would suggest that he prohibits people from using the kitchen before and after a certain time.

This review is a little late but I stayed nearly 3 weeks at Pepon Surf Camp, the last 2 weeks of August and first week of September, 2025. It was great! I had a private tent with a regular single mattress (not a camping one), sheets, blanket and pillow provided. There's a small kitchen with 4 burner cooker, oven and sink, there's fridge space too just ask Pepon where. Flush toilets and two showers which are cold, but it's always hot there so it was never an issue. There's also a restaurant run by Pepon and his wife where you can get very affordable and delicious breakfasts, lunches and dinner (menu del dia from 10soles!) and you can buy cold water, beer, soft drinks or pay a small fee to fill up bottles with filtered water. ABSOLUTELY A MUST STAY. This was by far one of my favourite hostels in South America. The hostel is located on a more private beach compared to the rest of the hostels in the loud and busy city centre. Only a 20 minute stroll along the beach to the city. The vibe at the hostel was so chilled, everyone seemed very happy and most people extended their stay. The staff were incredible.
