My stay at this hotel was generally OK. Let's start with the entrance: The hotel's exterior was decent, although I did notice that the PWD (Persons with Disabilities) parking area somewhat obstructed the driveway. The entrance itself was well-maintained and not too cramped, with security measures in place similar to those in shopping malls.
Upon entering, I was immediately struck by the inviting waiting areas and the exceptionally plush couches, which I found extremely comfortable and enjoyable. Now, moving on to the buffet experience. The buffet was priced at approximately $390 during my visit, and the menu offered a variety of dishes. There were options like pork, pizza, siopao, siomai, chicken, vegetables, rice, and soup. Among these, the siopao and siomai stood out as the most appealing, as the pizza had an unusually thin crust.
My personal highlight was the dessert and sushi section. The sushi primarily featured shrimp, complemented by some wasabi. There were also fresh fruits and snacks like grapes. When it came to desserts, there were three types of cakes, although they were quite similar. Additionally, there was an eclair that was decent but not exceptional, and a chocolate and strawberry sweet cream served in small glasses, which was a bit too sweet for my taste. The standout dessert was the cream puff, which I found exceptionally delicious.
Moving on to the hotel's pool, I regret that I didn't get a chance to swim during my stay, as we were primarily there for relaxation rather than swimming. However, I did appreciate the comfortable reclining seats by the poolside. The hotel also offers a play area for children and convenient shower facilities.
In summary, my stay at this hotel was satisfactory. While there were some minor inconveniences, such as the PWD parking area and the thin-crust pizza, the luxurious couches and the delightful dessert selection, particularly the cream puff, made up for it. The pool area, with its comfortable reclining seats, is a nice touch for relaxation. The hotel caters well to families with children, and the shower facilities are a convenient addition. Overall, a pleasant experience with a few...
Read moreBEWARE of Grand Palace. There are 3 dogs roaming around the lobby. Will urinate at you out of nowhere. These dogs urinated their filthy couch. Do not sit on it, it looks disgusting. Should you decide to stay in this hotel, consider yourself warned. My experience with this place is beyond disappointing. On the first day I checked in, I immediately noticed 3 dogs roaming around the lobby. I found it odd as I have never seen a hotel with dogs on the lobby. Even pet friendly hotels require dogs on leash. On 04/21/2024, while waiting for my ride, I was sitting at the lobby and one of the dogs came and peed on my shoe. I got startled and my phone fell on the dog’s pee on the floor. I was very upset and informed the desk right away. I informed them that this is unacceptable how they have loose dogs in the lobby. This was not disclosed anywhere on their hotel profile or online. They stated the dogs are the hotel owner’s pets. I am not against dogs and I do not care who owns it. However, a hotel lobby is not the place for your pets to roam around. As a paying customer, I deserve a comfortable accommodation. I asked to be checked out but I was informed their policy would give no refund since it was booked online. My argument is that I would respect the policy if I have no valid reason. The attendant informed me they left fruits for me as a way to say sorry for the incident. I felt insulted with this gesture, the fruit platter looks like leftover from their breakfast buffet. After getting Agoda involved, they agreed to refund me 600 less than what I paid per diem. They said if I have issues to deal with Agoda, which I have yet to hear. Other issues I have with this hotel were the musty smell and the cockroach I saw in the bathroom. Both of these other issues I could deal with and allowed it to slide. But the dogs were unacceptable to me. In addition, breakfast is not that great. They serve...
Read moreThe Grand Palace Hotel was a real let-down, starting with not living up to what they say. They claim to provide tea & coffee in the rooms, but there's no tea. Their web site says they have an airport shuttle, but they don't.||||Breakfast was disappointing too. Only 2 juices. Luckily one was usually pineapple. As well as the usual lukewarm breakfast items, they had some random cakes that were as bland as cardboard. Fortunately, you can walk through the Annex, cross the road and a few metres to your right is a bakery that sells doughnuts for 6 pesos that are vastly better.||||The hotel has guards with assault weapons and dogs. Seems pretty ridiculous and unsafe. Also the dogs spend most of their time living in cages alone next to the swimming pool.||||I had two bookings here, the first in a big king room. (They call it a "matrimonial" room!) The WiFi mostly didn't work. It's totally inadequate for the number of people who use it, especially if a big business group comes in for a conference during the day. (The DHCP server just runs out of addresses and you can't connect until someone else disconnects.) Even when it connected, it wasn't very fast. One other issue I had was the appearance of cockroaches every so often.||||The small single room was a vast improvement, as well as being half the price. While the single rooms have no windows, they have two massive advantages. Firstly, fast WiFi that works. The single rooms are in a hall behind the reception area and have their own access point that works brilliantly and isn't overloaded. Secondly, the small room doesn't have so many places for roaches to hide. I didn't see a single insect intruder.||||Note for those who might be confused by this site: The information and reviews on this page are for the Butuan Grand Palace Hotel. There is also an Annex. Tripadvisor currently has the...
