One of the worst places my family have ever had to stay in. OK, Iligan City is a rough, care-worn tired sort of old place, lacking any TLC, but this hotel was tryingeven harder to meet this brief. We arrived late, in the dark, in pouring rain. I asked for a room for 3. I was shown a rolm with 4 single eds in it, for P1,100 - about US$25. As we were already wet and cold and tired and hungry, we were almost past caring... The whole place was decorated in a style known as 'shabby chic' - except without the 'chic' bit. Gloomy, old, scruffy are words best to describe the decor. ||Our room contained 4 single beds. We were told off by the manager that if anything was touched on the 4th bed, we would be liable to pay a penalty fine. How did she expect 3 people to sleep in 4 sepparate beds. ||In the bathroom, the rust and calcificatiion had more or less pulled the shower tapss off the (badly stained ) batroom wall. The toilet bowl was also basdly stained (or badly cleaned?) and the toilet seat was cracked and broken. Thgere were 2 taps, lablebled hot & cold. Both provided the same verry small trickle of cold water.||I pushed one single bed up next to my wife's bed (after all, we do occasionally like a little cuddle during the night!). Large waves of dust and fluff were revealed on the floor below. My wife was told off by the hotel manager for moving their furniture, and threatended with a penalty fine if any unnecessary bedsheets were used.||If you enjoy the simple style bedroom, uncluttered by un necessary details such as bedside tables or bedside lights, this could be justy the place for you. ||But just remember the karaoke night club bar, which goes on as noisily as possible until 2am. Then you might get to sleep, until the big fish trucks start arriving to deliver their goods to the local wholesale fish market from...
Read moreThe good news first. Maria Cristina Hotel claim as being in the heart of the city is true. Everything you need (in case you left some at home) is just a stone's throw and within reach. The hotel staff is friendly and very accommodating, from the front desk to the restaurant where they will turn the aircon and TV for you. Food especially breakfast is GREAT. Now for the not so good news. While the hotel room shown on the internet appears inviting, the bed where I stayed is what I described as a "banana bed" It is sagging and uncomfortable to sleep in. If you like tossing and turning or an amnesiac, this type of bed is for you. The toilet is fair, but the showerhead and similar items appear rusty and the water leaks to the floor. So when you are shown to your room, try the bed first - and be sure to ask for a Non-Smoking room if you are a non-smoker. The one I got had an ash tray on top of the table. I will stay at Maria Cristina again, but this time I will make my sentiments known. I was there on impulse and did not...
Read moreI feel awful being the first to review this hotel and having a lot of negative comments. But as a traveler I feel it's my obligation to let you guys know as you have also helped me so very much. I'm just giving back here.||||First of, this hotel was built in 1952. The last renovation was done in 80's||This hotel has been neglected for 30 years. It was late and we went to Iligan spontaneously. This is the only hotel with vacancy. The architecture was art deco and really lovely from the outside. This hotel is near the town plaza. ||||But the rooms....Oh the rooms needs a LOT OF WORK. I don't even want to start. Cockroach. Yes. Bad bed, yes. Cable wires every where. Smoking floors. Please try to stay somewhere else if you can. ||||Sorry I just need to warn you. For 1000 pesos a night, you'd be better off somewhere else. ||||One thing good is the hot shower. But it comes with having to deal with their icky...
