Traumatic experience from this Hostel. We reserved three rooms by paying downpayment weeks before our stay, which was approved by the owner of the hostel himself, only to find out upon checking-in that our rooms are not available. We arrived a few hours after the standard check-in time and our rooms are still not ready and unavailable. The staff, Sarah, mentioned three different reasons as to the unavailability of the room: that the walk-in customers extended their stay (which is already an unacceptable reason), that there was a problem in check-outs, and that there was a "glitch" in their system. Whether these were true or not, this does not relieve them of their responsibility towards us as their clients.

The staff then proceeded to propose other available rooms which are clear and obvious downgrades from our reserved rooms. Alternative rooms were definitely smaller, had no sufficient beds for the guests, no private T&B, and are rooms that are just not proportionate to our originally reserved rooms. One look at their proposed alternative rooms and you could clearly see that you would not want to stay in here.

Worst part is that the staff did not even care to help and accommodate our concerns. We had to come up with our own plans to find a different hotel that actually has the availability at the very last minute which entailed unnecessary expenses.

Do not book at this hostel. Staffs are unprofessional, unacommodating, had literally no procedure to address concerns, and had no care at all over the absurd fact that we literally do not have our rooms because of their...

-AC is really weak, we had to ask for efans to cool our rooms faster; those near the terrace with windows tend to be hotter -upper decks has no side barrier and u may fall when turning around while asleep, we decided to bring the beds on the floor for safety -has cooking area complete with utensils and 2 dining table with 6 chairs each, there's not enough air circulating here, it was scorching hot -our beds should have been single detached but the receptionist claim there was double booking so got double decks instead, it's obviously just an excuse, good for them we're not nitpicky -ideal for backpackers, has own cabinet with locks -room space is good enough -we booked via agoda; tax and fees reached to 1k; room itself is affordable for 6 adults + 3 children -there's only 1 duplex outlet, we had to charge alternately -water was blackish that night, might be due to blackout in the area -alley going to the hostel is very narrow, good for 1 way only but apparently, it's a 2 way street -we slept comfortably enough through the night, it started to get hot at 6am -easy checkin with reservation and quick...

Booked two family room and city tour with the hostel via Agoda & have multiple email confirmations. The point person didn’t handover the information,so it was a bit confusing upon arrival. |The tour was okay, a bit pricey though but since we have the van to ourselves and the driver was pretty nice it was acceptable. Php1400 (6pax) .|After the tour the tour, the front desk gave us the wrong room. When they found out, they try to put us in this mold smelling room. When I told them about it, they wanted to put air purifier in the room so it wouldn’t smell. Had to tell them dozens of time that it was acceptable before they changed us into a new room. |To be fair, the staffs were nice and polite, however, they weren’t properly trained. The information wasn’t handover... as a result, we had to go over the same conversation over and over. Personally, I wouldn’t go back to this place again. With this price you can probably stay in a much more comfortable and well trained hotel...

I rated this 5 but I have a few concerns about the place. The place is dim and when it's dim, your spirit is also low. I suggest they have better lighting in their reception and even in their rooms. My room has a certain smell but not so serious, I just don't like that smell. Good things: They have wifi in their common areas. They offer their rooms in very very cheap prices living it's name backpacpers. Everyone expects it to have a backpackers price. But this price already comes off with a free breakfast. Overall it is a good hostel with a price that is affordable.

Mayon backpackers hostel is perfect wether you're traveling alone or in group. Accomodations are nice and useful : they have wifi, lockers, kitchen and even a breakfast ! ( It's not a lot but it's nice to have a good start in the day !). Very good location, near to the city center and close to a lots of jeepney's ways. It's also perfect when you arrive from Manila by bus, the bus driver will be able to drop you near to the cathedral and you'll only have to walk for 5 minutes. The airport is also quite close (10 minutes by tricicle, of course depending on the traffic).
