Sol at Hotel Areca — Restaurant in Legazpi

We tried the 8-course tasting menu on Valentine's Day, and it turned out to be the worst food service we’ve ever experienced. Our dinner was booked for 9pm, and although we arrived on time, we were asked to wait in the Hotel Areca lobby. We didn’t sit at our table until 9:30pm. The food was fine up until the 6th course, which was supposed to be the main dish—charcoal-grilled grass-fed beef. I had high expectations after seeing a photo from a mutual friend, but what I received (see video) was not at all comparable to those they served to the 6pm reservations (see photo). To make matters worse, we waited over an hour for this course, sorbet wasn’t even frozen, and we finished dining at 12:30 AM.

This wasn’t our first disappointing experience. We visited Sol in January, but we had to change our order four times because nothing we wanted was available. On top of that, the food wasn’t even worth the price.

The ambiance was nice and the waiters were kind, but I think I’ve had too many disappointments to ever consider...

One of the highlights of our stay 10 day stay at Hotel Areca was dining at Restaurant Sol (I think every single day 😂), located within the hotel. The food was delicious, thoughtfully prepared, and beautifully presented. Whether it was a lunch or dinner, every meal was a delight, and the service at the restaurant was just as impressive as the food and their exceptional cocktails (the negroni is my absolute favorite). Ambiance and atmosphere of the restaurant and contemporary, warm and welcoming, and the music gives amazing vibes. It is on a higher scale regarding prices, but it is definitely worth it and by far our favorite restaurant in Legazpi City. Kudos to the team working there and good luck in your...
