The setting of the Sun and Surf is fabulous. There is a very large tree canopy that provides shade over this small tropical beachside complex composed of precision built bamboo huts and a custom-designed main building. An ocean breeze blows gently through the trees. You can hear the waves caressing the shore just 50 meters away. You can see also incredible offshore islands that await your exploration. It is truly a beachside paradise.||||Sun and Surf is owned and operated by a nice couple, Kevin and Rona, plus their family. They all do their best to make sure you are comfortable and have everything needed to enjoy your vacation. ||||While you can certainly just sit around and enjoy the beach, Pundaquit is truly an adventure lover’s dream. Kevin and Rona can provide you all the info and help you need to custom tailor your adventures. The main activity is to rent a boat and go island hopping. ||||The deluxe way to see the islands is to have Kevin and Rona cater food for your trip. They’ll go to the fish market in the early morning and stock up on your favorites, be it fresh fish, squid, or perhaps bbq skewers of chicken and pork. They can also provide everything needed to cook your banquet on the perfect remote island beach they suggest (ask them to tell the boat captain you want to go to their suggested secret spot). What a place, what a feast!||||Speaking of feasting, Kevin and Rona can also set you up to enjoy their personal family meal if you let them know early enough so extra food can be bought. It’s a real treat to enjoy their home-cooking. As an option, food can be ordered in from local restaurants.||||Other great adventures are available. There are two kayaks for rent at Sun and Surf. They can be used to reach the islands and to explore the nearby river when conditions allow. Perhaps the best non-island adventure is to a mountain-side pool Kevin built. It’s near a waterfall just a short hike away. If you're worn out from all of the adventures, try a massage available right in your room.||||NOTE: This is not an upscale resort or traditional hotel. The accommodations are basic, yet comfortable. So, if you are looking for basic comforts in a beautiful natural setting at a tropical beachside site, with a special family-style ambiance, there is no better place on the Zambales coast.||||There are four types of relatively inexpensive rooms: 1) basic ground level bamboo huts with bed only. (CR and showers are in the nearby main building.) Each hut has a small sitting area just outside the door. 2) Deluxe hand-crafted bamboo style rooms on a second floor, with in-room toilet and outdoor showers. The balcony views are stunning. 3) Single bed basic air-con rooms with shower and CR. 4) A family style multi-bed room, with three beds,...
Read moreThere are only a few resorts in Pundaquit, and if your intention is to find a place to sleep and bathe and store your belongings while you enjoy the beach and/or go surfing or island hopping, then go for Sun and Surf. It's just a few steps away from the beachfront, it has a bar, and its own restaurant where you can have food cooked for you. If you want to cook your own food, there's a cooking and grilling area. You can buy ingredients at a nearby store (a few yards from the resort). There's parking space too. We are a family of 4 (couple with 5- and 6-year old kids) and we traveled with a group of 6 friends. We stayed at a standard, airconditioned room, with one double bed and its own toilet and bath, while our friends booked a family room, with 3 double beds, aircon, and one toilet and bath. There's hot & cold shower available. If you're looking for posh room, furnishing, and amenities, look for a diff. resort, as the rooms here are old, there's bare furnishing, and the sheets though fresh are not new. The free soap is very small so better bring your own toiletries. The resort staff are friendly and accommodating. There are cheaper huts and fan rooms but they do not have their own T&B. There are lots of shower rooms around though. We went here during rainy season so the waves were really huge. No boat would take us island hopping. We planned to take a hike to Pundaquit Falls but the rains made it impossible. We'd like to try again during summer time but the resort staff said it could get really crowded from December to June. Anyway, in spite of the disappointment about not having set foot on Capones and Camara islands and Nagsasa Cove, it was still a good experience. The beach waters and beachfront were surprisingly clean and well maintained. The kids enjoyed wading in the water, playing with the rough sand, and watching the huge waves. I enjoyed the contrast of the serenity of Pundaquit with the disruption caused by the huge, crashing waves and the darkness enveloping the beach as the rain...
Read moreFantastic resort for people who like to be comfortable and happy, not for the luxurious and pampered. You have several options for rooms and views as well. It's a different kind of resorts from other and it's very much Filipino style, just communicate with people there and you'll get service.||||The rooms are definitely different. Upstairs gets the best views, a fan, toilet (manual water pressure flush), bed for two, bench and table to sit and enjoy the view. The room downstairs has the most privacy with solid walls and aircons. And the kubo is literally just a little hut with a bed, switch for the light, an outlet, and a table in front. It can be a cute experience to sleep in one.||||The showers are a separate unit outside. It's nice to come back from the beach and just rinse off before dinner or what not. There is a switch for the light for late showers and the water pressure is good too.||||Also, the food is so good! Freshly made bread, imported produce from cheese and sauces, and they got good booze (the really cheap stuff too if you want.) There is American food as well as Filipino and breakfast food. Coffee, soda, etc.||||WiFi can be on and off. But it's free and it works well when it does. If you ask nicely, I'm sure someone could set a reboot for you when it's not working. If not, you're at the beach go enjoy the perfect waters and watch the sunset.||||Kevin helped us organize everything from boats, lunches, and even a masu to come in from downtown. Again, I think this is a great resort and they take care of you. If you're looking for good service and a good place to stay...
