This was my second hostel in The Phillipines and if you could rate service and kindness 6/5 I definitely would. The guys at reception are extremely helpful and always willing to help. We had contact prior to my arrival and everything I wanted or needed was arranged.
The room was okay. I was in the room with no mosquito nets and sorta made my own with sheets since there were just too many mozzies flying around. I would definitely recommend applying nets in that room as well. The rooms all have a locker space per person and the facility is well protected and has cctv. The room has a well functioning air conditioning and plugs available near the bed to charge your phone. The doors are a little tough to open and close at times since they don't have any door handles, but that is easily fixed. The shower has soo much pressure you'll get blasted away, in a good way, but both times when I showered no warm/hot water.
They offer breakfast services for a decent price but wouldn't expect too much of it. It is however decent enough to start your day with!
The hostel is however very noisy, so if you're a light sleeper this might not be for you. The use of earplugs is definitely recommended.
The location is excellent and within 1km of the ferry port. I enjoyed my stay here and their hospitality! *They do have 2 cats, so if you're allergic let them know upon arrival and they keep the dorm room closed. Any change of sheets and towels is no issue and they can also change the blankets to sheets. Service really is...
Read moreI was meant to write this review 4 years ago when me and my girlfriend went travelling. I have to write this review because this place holds such warming memories in my mind. Firstly, let's talk about the family, when I was there 4 years ago it was this lovely old lady and from what I recall she owned the place. She walked around with me and my girlfriend showing us her family photos and told us the history of the place. There was also a younger man who also welcomed us and told us more history and stories about the family. Feeling at home wouldn't even begin to describe how I felt in this hostel. Food was always available in the little food market outside. One memory that has been replaying in my mind for the past 4 years was when my girlfriend, the older lady and myself all danced together one evening. She was so happy to have us dancing with her and we have a video of it, the smile on her face is something I've kept with me ever since that evening. The place itself is gorgeous, wooden floors that creek ever so slightly, cute restroom thats always fresh, wide open patio with tables and chairs and the bedrooms are airy and open. For me, I didn't even care if I was to sleep on a potato sack. It was the people who made it for me. That family, the welcoming and the sense of belonging has never left me. It's been 4 years and I truly hope those who worked there are still happy and healthy since I last saw them. I will be coming back to the Philippines and I will be staying here...
Read moreI would 100% recommend this place! Cheap price between 400 and 500 pesos (fan vs AC room), comfortable beds, very close to ferry port, breakfast optional, and fantastic owners and staff!!!!
It is also centrally located to Chocolate Hills, Tarsier Sanctuary, waterfalls and Panglao Island.
Now after staying all of that, I must state that this is NOT a party hostel - you are looking for a place to drink, listen to music and stay up late you will not find it here.
Now that's said I would stay with them again! I stayed 2 days and it was so pleasant. This hostel is actually a very beautiful and historical mansion from 1926 and has plenty of history! It was captured by the Japanese during WW2 and used as the military headquarters for the island and housed the Colonel of the Japanese forces. It was turned over the US after the war and 3 individual US Presidents have visited or stayed here! In fact, the day that I arrived a ceremony and historical meeting was held here with traditional Filipino dance and singing and the US Ambassador to the Philippines attended and hung out for a few hours!
The owners: Ray is an American from New York and his wife Gloria is from Bohol - she grew up here and this house was her father's. They are a wonderful pair and will REALLY go out of their way to help you. While the house is historical and a good place to stay, Ray and Gloria are the reason I...
