American Tourist Review. I tend to write relatively long reviews and this particular review is meant for non Asian tourists. Stopping at the first sentence will do you no good.
As far as pricing goes, it seems to good to be true, but you get what you pay for. You get a bed, AC, a toilet, a sink and a shower plus two bath towels and complimentary tooth brushes with toothpaste in addition to a pair of ceramic coffee cups. That’s it. Honestly, it seems more than generous for the price.
There are multiple water fountain stations in the hallways with clean drinking water. They also provide hot water for your beverages but not even a spoon to stir it with. Cue the toothbrush!
I did ask if I could get a spoon or a bucket of ice my first night there, but the front desk told me that I would have to ask the restaurant for these items and was given the impression that it wasn’t a guarantee, so I never asked. Shame on me.
By the second day I asked for someone to look at the lack of hot water or pressure in the shower room. Seemed strange because the sink was just the opposite. I returned in the evening to discover that they supposedly made a repair, but nothing changed. I got a call from the front desk at 8 PM asking if I was satisfied with the repair, but I was woken up from a deep sleep and a bit annoyed, so I answered in their favor just to get off the phone and return to sleep. Shame on me, again!
By the third day I discovered that there wasn’t even any hot water in the hallways. I accidentally stumbled into the hotel manager while making yet another complaint and this would be the man who made every effort to correct all of the wrongs I had experienced thus far. I didn’t even want to write a review, but his sincere effort and apologies for my poor experience made me feel that I should try to find something good to say, versus nothing at all.
I mentioned the shower issue, the fact that I was using a toothbrush to stir my coffee, my inability to acquire a spoon or a bit of ice for a cold drink among other things. He was genuinely shocked and quickly addressed EVERYTHING!
The shower was repaired within the hour. He sent up a bucket of ice with tongs and even delivered fresh towels plus a pair of clean coffee cups and spoons. The gentleman also gave me and my wife a breakfast credit for the following morning at the attached restaurant to which I must admit, this restaurant is most likely serving the best quality food in the area. It’s absolutely worth a visit regardless if you’re staying at this hotel or not.
I’m your average white American who happens to have been married into the Filipino culture for more than 20 years, so I say the following with a heavy heart. I feel a great deal of my negative experience in this region has more to do with my skin color than anything else. This and the fact that my wife is a younger national which is also frowned upon in some regions. I was a recipe for disaster and didn’t even know (expect) it.
I didn’t want to mention race possibly being an issue with the manager because honestly, it was quite an unsettling experience that plagues the entire region, not just this hotel. So please, don’t for any reason think that I’m suggesting that the behavior of certain staff members of this establishment represents the hotel as a whole, because they don’t. They do however seem to mirror my experience everywhere I went between Tuguegarao and Piat.
I’ve visited the Philippines many times, but this region was a first for me and I see no need to ever return. I prepaid for 10 days and left 7 days early to retreat to Manila/Pasay where I personally feel more comfortable and less of an oddity.
Bottom line. Decent hotel in a good location, but don’t be silent if you have a legitimate complaint. Seek out the hotel’s manager and you’ll quickly feel at ease. He’s a...
Read moreIt was my 2nd time to stay in this hotel.. The first stay was good due to location next to the mall.. Our Second stay was with my daughter. All was fine except for the part that the hotel has no room service and they close the restaurant very early like around 10pm it's close since we checked in late already and left early due to our early flight.. My daughter need to drink her medicine and we haven't had any dinner during our arrival so I was expecting we could juz order through room service so she can drink her medicine but I was surprised that all were close and no more access for food.. So I left with one option to order through food panda and requested at the front desk if they can send to our room since it's already paid but the front desk refuse and said it's not allowed and I have to come down and pick it up. Good thing the guard was standing near to us and heard our conversation with the front desk and kind enough to offer that he will just ask the concierge to send our food in our room. I know it's not allowed it's hotel standard rule but I salute the guard unfortunately I was not able to get his name but I salute his extra mile service as he understands that me and my daughter are very exhausted and tired from long trip and no more energy to go down. Actually even from our first stay the guards are really kind and doing their best to accommodate not only us but all the guests based on my observation. The front desk are talking and acting like manager they rarely smile too.. If they smile it's so formal u can't feel the sincerity. Anyway, I was happy with the room and the service of the guard and concierge except for...
