Rezydencja. Restauracja, Willa, hotel — Hotel in Legnica

Well, I do not where to start my somewhat worst review I have ever written.... I checked-in to this property on Friday evening for a 2-night hotel stay during my short business trip and I must admit that I was confused where to check in or how as there is apparently no formal reception area.||||Evening check in||||The waitress came out of the hotel’s restaurant kitchen and handed me my room keys and asked me when I would like to have breakfast. I have politely stated that I would like to have breakfast at 7:00 AM and the waitress positively acknowledged my request. That was it for the check in. ||||The place and its history||||The room 104 I was allocated was overseeing the hotel’s garden, which has most likely seen better times in the past. The hotel residence is actually an early 19th century villa designed by Fritz Hesse for Teichert’s industrial family and it has also been a home residence of a Russian Commending General of the local Soviet Army garrison after World War II. No doubt, this was the place of great grandeur in the local area in the past. I emphasize the past tense here because currently the place is in a great need of care and restoration especially given its historical significance. Needless to say, the room I was given was beautiful despite the aging wallpapers, rotting windows, and torn and worn out carpet. I certainly didn’t mind the shortcomings. However, what I did mind came later.... ||||Dinner||||I have ordered a veal loin served over spinach in creamy sauce with very delicate potato dumplings and red beat garnish on the side served with the bottle of Pellegrino. I must admit that had really enjoyed it. It was a right portion not overwhelmed by any of the side dishes. Everything was served very esthetically. ||||Breakfast||||After waking up and going to breakfast at around 7:00 AM, I found the hotel completely deserted. There was no one to be found anywhere and certainly no breakfast was ready. After wondering around for 20 minutes or so, a young woman came rushing toward me and apologizing for the slip-up. Well, it could happen to everyone I thought. After all, this is a bad and breakfast hotel and I happened to be the only guest staying there overnight. After few more hiccups during the breakfast preparation such serving most certainly expired mozzarella cheese or definitely frozen rolls, I was somewhat satisfied. I finished my breakfast at 8:00 AM and went out to do my business. ||||Evening before departure||||After coming back at noon to pick up few items, I have noticed that someone has set-up music equipment in the lobby of the villa with pretty impressive speaker system. Just to illustrate the dilemma that this fact posed to me, the villa is not that big and all rooms are located just above the lobby area. Therefore, I have asked the same waitress that has handed me keys to my room about the upcoming event and she has assured me together with her colleagues standing right next to her that the music would definitely stop at 10:00 PM. After coming back to my room at around the time when music was going to stop, I have noticed that in fact, it didn’t. The music in my room was so loud that my business partner with whom I was conversing over the phone couldn’t hear me and neither I could hear anything not to mention being able to fall asleep in the room. I have called the reception, which is actually the kitchen and I have asked politely what is going on. The answer I have received stunned me, the music wouldn’t stop for a while and no one knew how long this while would last. I have finally asked to be connected with the manager, who I have presumed might happened to be the owner of the place. The answer I have received not only stunned be, but rather outraged me. The answer was that the party downstairs has reserved the villa for the weeding anniversary and consequently, nothing can be done to stop the music. I was offered another room at 11:30 PM to relocate to. However, please note, that the villa does not have more than 2 stories and no room could escape such a loud music. Anyway, I was exhausted and I felt deeply cheated. I simply packed my suitcase and re-located to another hotel nearby for the night.||||Epilogue||||The hotel residence has definitely a great potential to be one of the best bed and breakfast places in the local area. Its historical significance is not being conveyed properly to existing as well as potential guests. ||||Lack of small reception tended by a professional receptionist is a major shortcoming. Lack of consistency in breakfast serving times and serving unprepared or stale food is not only impolite, but also dangerous. Organizing loud parties while guest are in the hotel and knowingly misinforming them is a crime that no reputable hotel should commit toward its guests if it wants to remain in business. This was our third visit at "Hotel Rezydencja" and we were very disappointed.||1. Breakfast:||||First of all, the breakfast buffet was, to put it simply, a joke: on our first day, the milk was sour (which is dangerous!) and we were apparently given the left-overs from the Christmas dinner on the previous night. Apart from that, we were served old, dry slices of ham, cheese and had to ask for fresh bread, butter, and even salt (this repeated itself on each morning). The pancakes that were supposed to be kept warm on the buffet were, in fact, cold. On the penultimate day, the ham and cheese buffet was put on a table directly above a heater and on the final day, the temperature in the breakfast room was extremely low. All in all, to sum up this section, breakfast was very disorganized and definitely not reflecting a five-star-standard.||||2. Restaurant||On the second day, we had late lunch at the hotel restaurant. While the food itself was good and the service polite, we had to wait almost 1.5 hours for our meals. It seemed as if the hotel kitchen was not prepared for serving guests at all. As a consequence, we decided against having another lunch there.||||3. Hospitality||On the final night of our stay, there was a wedding party held at the hotel. Already on the previous day, the entrance hall had been set up for the party (equipment, speakers, etc.) and the tables in the breakfast room were already set for this party (i.e. more than 36 hours in advance). This gave us the impression that the hotel was not interested in us or other hotel guests but primarily catering to the needs of party guests. ||This made us feel rather unwelcome. ||One member of the cleaning staff did not even greet us on the floor and was outraged (!) when we mentioned there was not toilet paper in the bathroom any more...||||For a relatively young hotel, it should be a priority to provide a hospitable and friendly atmosphere, otherwise such an 'establishment' should not call itself 'hotel.'||||While the price is 'luxurious' for Polish standards, it does not compare with...

We spent 3 nights at this charming hotel in Legnica’s Tarninów district and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The villa is beautifully restored and surrounded by a quiet park. Nights were peaceful — no traffic noise, just a cool breeze through the open windows.

Parking is convenient: a few spaces in front, many more in the back, and street parking if needed.

Our room had a lovely park view, and we took a morning walk on our last day — very relaxing.

Breakfast was excellent: a wide selection for the small number of guests, with everything quickly replenished.

The hotel has an interesting history — ask to see the photo album showing its transformation after the Soviet Army left.

Staff were very friendly and made our stay feel welcome.
