Family Hostel Costa Nova — Hotel in Ílhavo

We were driving from Porto to Lisbon and wanted to do 1 to 2 overnights to get a little beach time. I googled from the car and decided on the beach towns of Costa Nova and Nazare. I stumbled upon this property for our first stop in Costa Nova and my husband almost died when I told him we were staying at a hostel (he hasn’t done that in 30 years since he was 20) but I explained how clean and modern it looked in the photos and he had the most pleasant surprise when he saw our beautiful little room with a queen size bed and a bunkbed for our daughter and a decent modern bathroom. He couldn’t believe that it was 1/6 the cost of our Porto or Lisbon hotels and how well we slept and how comfortable we were. The location of hostel & price was pretty good. Room condition was good as well. Kitchen and resting area was nice. There were only 2 things I didnt like: carpet on the room floor was kinda stinky. 2. No soundproof system at all- We visited here end of sep so there were less tourists. But it was super noisy at night cuz this hostel is between two cafes. You can hear everything from outside and also other rooms. I dont want to imagine high season in here. Voy por partes: La habitación estaba bien, nueva, cogimos el baño propio que, aunque un poco angosto, era suficiente. La cama era incomodísima. Entiendo que el Hostel no tiene la culpa, pero nos tocaron una familia de franceses muy mal educados, ruidosos, que solo estaban entrando y saliendo de la habitación contigua dando portazos. Imposible dormir. Si me dijeras que eran las 16:00, OK. PERO ERAN LAS 01:00 Y AHÍ SEGUÍAN.

Esto sí que es culpa del hostel: ni un solo cartel con normas de convivencia, ni prohibición de hacer ruidos de tal hora a tal hora. Además de que las paredes eran de papel, porque escuchábamos a nuestros queridos y amables compañeros franceses como si estuviesen durmiendo con nosotros.

Por último, y no menos importante, cuando llegamos a la recepción a hacer el checkin, los propietarios (matrimonio de hombre y mujer, entiendo), nos miraron y se dijeron algo al oído a escondidas en nuestra presencia. Cosa que me pareció de muy mala educación.
