Location: excellent. Outside the city walls but only a 5 minute walk to a few restaurants (we really liked Vila Infante but did not like Cafe Snack Bar) and a 15 minute walk to the center (Capinha bakery was very good). We had a car rental to explore the surrounding areas so the location served as a good base. The setting itself is beautiful and peaceful.||||Comfort: we stayed in the Vinho do Porto room. The bed was comfortable, there was lots of storage and it was spacious, the A/C worked really well for both heating and cooling, there was good water pressure in the large shower, and there was lots of hot water. Wifi/internet was fast. It was very clean.||||Breakfast: served in the main house. Simple but tasty selection of breads, cold-cuts, cheeses, home-made jams, and fruits.||||Hosts: kind, helpful, and responsive. You can tell they care about running a good business.||||Overall: We have stayed in over 100 accommodations and this was one of my favorites. Usually there is something missing or not working but not during our stay. No complaints, everything was perfect. Highly recommend.||||Other: Batalha is worth the day trip to visit the monastery (and the extra fee to see the additional rooms is also worthwhile). Nearby Santarem has an annual agricultural fair in June that is also...
Read moreWe had a very spacious two room suite; good sized bathroom with shower, living area with couch and table, dining area with table and chairs and a fully equipped kitchen with all the utensils you could ever want. The kitchen is set up for those who want to cook their own meals. The grounds are exquisite. Several acres with a citrus and apple orchard, large barn, swimming pool and a well tended herb and vegetable garden. The on site parking is quite roomy.||Quinta da Olivia is outside the walls and easy to find. It is only a 10 minute safe walk into the walled city. Irma and Oskar provide information on day trips and insider tips on when to use or not to use the freeways.||The breakfast was always more than we could eat, meats, cheeses, fresh fruit, home made jams, bread and croissants, yogurt, cereal and fresh squeezed juice and coffee.||Very spacious quiet room in a...
Read moreI am giving this 5 "stars" for being really good at what it is; not for being Ritz or Four Seasons luxury. We were happy to be outside of any kind of city and appreciated the free parking. The location makes a good base for exploring this area north of Lisbon. From here we visited Obidos (underwhelming) Alcobaca (very impressive) Batalha (also very impressive) and Tomar (amazing!!). It would also be easy to visit Nazare or Fatima from here but for various reasons we chose not to. It would also be a nice place to just hang out and chill for a few days. The gardens are lovely and there is a pool altho the weather was not conducive to our using it. We enjoyed this peaceful haven in the countryside. |Irma and Oskar are helpful and friendly but not overbearing or intrusive. Our room was spacious and clean. We were very...
