Hotel Restaurante Bagoeira — Hotel in Barcelos

What a wonderful week we had, returning again to the charming and friendly Bagoeira Hotel. |We’ve been visiting for nearly 20 years, having found it by chance on a road trip through the north of Spain and Portugal. Now, we tend to take the easy flight to Porto and the hire a car for the 40 minute drive.|Together with its excellent restaurant this modern and comfortable hotel, with its friendly and professional staff, offers an oasis of calm. |It’s at the heart of Barcelos, by the large market area, which hosts one of the largest European markets every Thursday.|The restaurant offers excellent traditional Minho food. As for most of Portugal, half portions are usually large enough. A large wine list, with a very good range of ports accompanies the a la carte and special daily dishes menus.|Now Covid has gone, we shall be back more often to meet our Bagoeira friends...

Wé just stay one week . On 24.01.2025 at 03:00 I woke up with a burning smell of gas in my eyes and breathless. When I woke up I was about to lose consciousness. My bed was next to the window. I threw myself to the window with difficulty. I opened the window and tried to breathe and come to myself. The hotel manager said that the gas in the refrigerator had exploded and R410 is a poisonous and flammable gas. The switch had tripped. There was no electricity in the room, there was only electricity in the corridor. It was as if we came to die, not on...

We have just had 6 days cycling in Portugal and can confidently say that this was the worst hotel we stayed in! Both the daytime and the evening Reception staff did not welcome us, smile or say hello - which surely is the minimum we would expect! The rooms are like something out of the 1970's - brown and mustard and depressing and just generally not somewhere you would like to sleep. The breakfast was uninspired and meagre and the bar was closed when we arrived at 4pm - and was closed all evening. Just not...
