I have stayed in a number of hostels, and I must say that my experience at HI Braga - Pousada de Juventude tops them all. Its about 15 mins away from the bus terminal on foot and is located opposite a tall and long yellow building. My first impression of the hostel was that it certainly didn’t look or feel like one. The serenity that greeted me when I entered, made me feel like I had entered the reception of a trendy and cool co-working space. The hostel is really big on the Sustainable Development Goals, and if you have zero knowledge about the SDGs, you’ll get to see a lot of things that educate you about it. The bins placed in the rooms and around the hostel all had color coded compartments that help you recycle waste properly, and even the bathrooms had friendly reminders about water usage. The rooms were very neat and spacious enough for a hostel room. My room had 4 bunks that were splint into 2 different compartments and a bathroom and toilet for the 8 occupants to share. Each bed had a charging port for a 2-pin charger and a usb port. When I checked in, I was given a key card, a key to my locker and a meal ticket for breakfast the next morning. The locker had a blanket, 1 large towel and 2 smaller towels in it. The hostel has several places to sit and relax. The lobby downstairs, the common room upstairs and a sit out area upstairs. There are also rest rooms located near the lobby and the common room. The lobby and common room also had interactive screens where you can look at places to visit in the city, create an itinerary and send to your phone. You can also choose to get a map of the city from the reception. I was really impressed by the friendliness of the staff, the cleanliness of the hostel and the facilities there and I know that I’ll definitely lodge there again when next I’m in Braga.

I was super happy with my stay here. It was only for one night but the experience was great. It exceeded my expectations. I recommend this hostel if you want to stay overnight in Braga. Cons 1. I do not like the lower ceiling of the down bed. I almost always hit my head to the wood. Pros 1. Making a booking is super easy. You can book through many online travel agents and choose to pay at the property. They also have the option of free cancellation booking. 2. During the check-in, the reception will ask your id card. Then, they will give you the key for the door and licker, and breakfast paper. 3. I stay in the female dormitory of 4 beliches with 2 beds each. There were only 4 people inside which was good because it was not noisy. 4. The shared bathroom was located inside the room. Soap for the shower is available for free. The hot water works perfectly. If they can have more hanger for clothes or towels, it will be great. 5. Each bed will have their own lockers to store their valuable things. Upon the arrival, it fills with clean towels and a blanket. 6. The price is unbeatable. For 21 euros per night, it is a good price. 7. The location is not so bad. It is about 10 to 15 minutes of walking from the city center of Braga. 8. Breakfast is included in the price. The breakfast started at 8 am and finished at 10 am. The breakfast is buffet service, basic and enough to fill the belly until lunch time. There is toast, some slices of tomatoes, cucumbers, cheese, peru, jam, manteiga, aveia, plain yogurt, water, orange juice. They have additional paid food or drink if you need. You just need to contact the lady. 9. Free wifi is accessible inside the room, but a bit slow speed.

I stayed in this hostel for two nights and it is one of the best hostels I’ve stayed at in Portugal. All the staff were very friendly and helpful and if I had to single one out for a special mention it would be Bruna whose customer service and patience were outstanding. J B from Scotland
