Dom Augusto — Restaurant in Braga

Where to start? A group of friends went for a dinner because of the good reviews. The service was very good - they didn't speak English, but managed to explain that all they offer tonight was 2 types of meet and 1 type of fish. One of my friends is vegetarian, so they said they will prepare something without explaining what, or how much it will cost. Another one ordered a salad - it was not on the menu, but they prepared a simple bowl of cut vegetables. For the remaining 3 of us it was the cod fish option. We got a bottle of water and some appetizers, which I thought are a welcome gesture - but no! Like in some Arab countries where I've seen this practice, that was included in the bill. The food was very average - not too bad, but nothing fancy, but the price for it - unreasonable - the most expensive place I've visited in Portugal! The salad - 9€, the half portion of cod (which was huge, but again - average) - 17€, the vegetarian sausage (my friend didn't like it all) - 15€. The wine in the menu was 10€, and I thought that's the price per bottle, but it was for a glass. We will talk about that experience...

The food is great, you should go to this place BUT take a precaution and ask the waiter to show you the bill before paying or you can get ripped off!!!

This is what happened to me: I asked for the bill to the waiter and he came back after 5 minutes and told me that it was 55 Euros, which sounded a little high based on what we ordered and the prices shown on the menu. I asked the waiter to show me the bill just to make sure that it was right and he got nervous and told me to wait. 10 more minutes passed and I asked him again and again he told me that they were working on it. I got desperate and I went directly to the counter to see what was going on, the waiter was nervous to see me there and started to get the bill which took less than a minute and my suspicions were right, the correct bill was 38,20 Euros instead of 55. Trying to steal from me made him lose a good tip I was considering to give this waiter.

Beware and always ask the waiter to show you the bill...

Absolutely perfect beautiful taste of Portugal. We were reccomended this restaurant by an expatriate from Canada of Portuguese decent. We had been less than impressed with our food experience thus far and had almost given up hope that we were not going to find this elusive great taste of Portugal. Thank you Dom Augusto for our experience. We would have been over the moon with just the tasters that were brought to the table, then the meals came and we were blown away. Pork, duck, and cod for 8 people plus 2 bottles of champagne and 4 soft drinks for €120. We left a generous tip and...
