We arrived a couple of hours before check-in and as the host had just finished preparing our room she allowed us to check-in early. Our room was clean and quiet with complimentary snacks and a couple of coffee capsules for the provided coffee machine. The room has a microwave, small refrigerator that barely keeps items cold. There is a small safe on a wardrobe shelf, but beside the fact that the safe was not bolted down and is easily carried away, it also did not have batteries to operate it. I imagine the host might provide batteries on request, but why bother. The shower in our room needs serious attention as half of the water leaks out of a hose connection and the leak only gets worse as the increase the water pressure, but the shower did basically work, so there is that. Surprisingly there were liguid soap dispensers that actually had soap in them (a rare find in Portugal so far). Location isn't bad. The center of the city is a 10 minute walk, and there are a few cafes along the way, but nothing to get excited about. The Forum shopping mall is a 30 minute walk if you need more food selections and\or other consumer goods. Also there is a Continente Bom Dia grocery store\cafeteria a 15 minute walk away that was nice. There are two laundry mats very close to the...
Read moreThis was the 3rd hotel that I stayed in at Castelo Branco. I have to say that I felt a bit like Goldilocks and the 3 hotels, one was crappy, I will review that here too, one was purported to be very up-market, also to be reviewed here, and one was just right. Yes, you guessed it...Boutique a Esplanada was THAT one!||The room was great, and I wanted to return there after every long, happy, busy, sun-kissed day. The TV was unexpected insofar as it had english-speaking movies with portuguese subtitles. The room was complete with en-suite, microwave, espresso maker, mini fridge, complementary tea, coffee. Breakfast was an extra £5 (euros, but can't find my euro sign :S ) There was a kitchen for the use of guests and a patio/terrace/garden/outdoor space, both of which I discovered shortly prior to leaving.||One thing I would say is that you need to learn how to control the air conditioner before you go to bed and have to hunt for socks in the middle of the night, and dig out the extra blanket supplied by the hotel.||The only downside I can put forward is the used elastoplast stuck to the bottom of the chair which stayed there for the duration of my visit, from a...
Read moreStayed here during October 2021, and I must admit I found the place a little daunting. Nicely placed in Castelo Branco and loads of Eateries close by with a large selection of Menu's.|Strange process on arrival where you see nobody to book you in or discuss anything with. You are sent an door entry code via email before you arrive, on arrival you have to punch in this code on the keypad which eventually opens the main door, then in the same email you are given another code to enter your allocated room. I appreciate we are dealing with Covid-19 and want to remain safe, but imagine and elderly person who is not IT Savvy having to deal with this on arrival............... strange system.|The Hotel itself is very nice, rooms are spacious and have excellent facilities including a room fridge and good wifi. Parking is close by and ample.|Probably my second choice if I was looking for a place to stay in...
