To clarify: This is about the Oliveiras residence, José (owner) and Sandra (house keeper) are both very polite and will try their best to make you comfortable but the main issue here are the other guests. Also, the comment bellow mentioning that their deposit wasn't returned is fake, It may not have been returned but there was a reason for it. Sandra returned ours 3 days before we left since everything was in order.
Expect lots of loud music(even parties), noises and discussions (sometimes up to 3 AM) from the long term guests that, by now, live there like they're actually at their own houses and there's no one else at home. The kitchen is tiny compared to the rest of the house, so preparing a meal can be a nightmare specifically during peak hours. There's an induction cooktop with 4 burners that work quite well, but with over 20 people sharing it can be quite complicated. Also don't expect anything to be clean but those that are under Sandra's responsibility, since people tend to completely ignore the fact that you're supposed to do the dishes and clean the stove after using it. The sink was at least half full of dirty stuff for the 30 days I stayed there(except once when Sandra got tired of sending warnings in the group chat and ended up washing them herself). We actually ended up having to wash some of those too if we wanted to cook because there was often no utensils left to use or whoever used them simply didn't wash them properly. There's a living room but we never used it because, you guessed it already, but the guys mentioned above pretty much monopolize it like it's part of their own bedrooms. Much to our shock, some t-shirts of a fellow guest simply vanished while drying. Some of our stuff ended up vanishing too but nothing expensive. (salt, some bars of soap, a towel).
The room we stayed in was great, big and clean.
To sum it up, it's possible to have a good time there. Just pretend the house is limited to your room and maybe the fridge and you'll most likely not find it half as bad as we did. If you don't want to deal with all that, just ask Jose to stay in the Giesta residence and you'll have a...
Read moreJose was very helpful even before we arrived in Porto. We asked for and he provided very detailed travel directions from the airport but we ended up taking the taxi because it was easier. Only took us 15-20mins and 20-something euros, driver stopped right outside the accommodation on the main road. ||||Room was clean, tidy and a good size for the two of us (good shower as well). Jose was available on his phone as soon as I called and no question was too minor for his attention. Was happy to chat in the communal area (next to the kitchen, which has everything you need if you decide to cook and eat in - big supermarket just 5mins walk up the road).||||Buses to central Porto is opposite the Studios and to the right, quite frequent and only takes around 15mins - we took one of the buses right to the end of the line, can't remember which number it was but I know the last stop was Rua do Bolhao! Coming back, the bus stops right outside the accommodation, think our stop was Areosa Mercado. We bought the Andante Tour 3(day) travelcard from one of the train stations - you can get the Andante Tour 1(day) on the bus.||||Overall, very happy with the price given it was a pretty last-minute booking. Would definitely stay here again if I came back to visit Porto, everyone is very friendly in the area. Thank you Jose for your hospitality and making our stay a memorable one for all the...
Read moreI had an extremely disappointing experience staying at this student accommodation. The owner provides misleading information about the place. You’re required to bring everything on your own, including basics like pillows, bedsheets, and even kitchen equipment such as spoons, forks, plates, and cups—none of this was mentioned beforehand.
On top of that, they demand the deposit in cash without providing any kind of receipt, which felt unprofessional and unsafe.
The rooms are ok, but in the night it is colder inside of the room than outside.
The housekeeper only comes to clean once a week and spends most of the time nagging about every little thing, making the entire living situation stressful and uncomfortable (attached: screenshots).
The shower was leaking from the start, and despite multiple complaints, the owner refused to fix it.
They also don’t provide any washing machine, so you’re forced to wash everything by hand, which is highly inconvenient.
The owner is extremely greedy for money and calculative, charging for everything imaginable, even though the rooms are nothing special and certainly not worth the price.
Lastly, there were cameras in the property, which we were never informed about, raising serious privacy concerns.
Overall, this place is not worth the hassle or the money. Avoid...
