This was a 4*hotel probably many years ago. On their website they promise plenty and I feel sorry for the staff because those promises cannot be guaranteed/ fulfilled. The rooms are clean but really outdated, even furniture with whipped upholstery. The walls between the rooms are probably really thin and without any sound proofing, we could not just hear but smell every happening from the rooms next door. When we checked in we mentioned that we would like to use the spa and on the reception we have been informed the location of the spa but no further instructions were given. The hotel provided bathrobes and towels. Unfortunately the jacuzzi didn't work and the sauna and the steam was off, so we couldn't use any of them - none was mentioned in our check-in. In our room there were a twin bed, which we wanted to switch to a double. 2 members of staff were sent with a double bedsheet that they put on the twin bed but that didn't helped on the fact we had the gap between the 2 mattresses. But the biggest disappointment was the restaurant. On the website a gastronomic experience with an a la carte menu is promised and it was everything but. There is a buffet style dinner more like an all you can eat. So if you are looking for quantity rather than quality for your money that is your place... When we asked about the a la carte the waitress informed us it will take quite a time for the kitchen to prepare - that was already a warning sign. We ordered the shrimp - which was chewy - and the daily catch with the spinach that was so over I could not finish it. So nothing like it was promised on...

Although the furnishings are a bit outdated, all rooms and suites are in good condition and all areas are very well maintained and clean. The hotel will soon undergo a complete renovation to refresh the technology and design of the hotel.
My suite had a sleeping and living area with a view of the volcano on the neighbouring island of Pico, a bathroom with bathtub/shower combination and toilet as well as a separate guest toilet. Two televisions and free wireless internet completed the facilities.
Meals can be taken in the Clipper restaurant. In addition to a small breakfast buffet with high-quality local products, a small buffet with starters, hot main courses, a selection of desserts and cheese is usually offered in the evening.
All in all, with its central location and upscale facilities, the hotel is the perfect base for exploring one of the most beautiful islands in the Azores.

Read moreI stayed at this hotel for four nights in May and overall, I enjoyed my experience, even though the hotel seems rather outdated and I would not stay here longer than just a few nights. To start with the positives: Fantastic staff! Everyone is very friendly and ready to help and provides excellent service. Rooms are clean and nice. BD in the bathroom. The towels are really big. Robes, slippers and toiletries are provided, which is fantastic! My room had a desk and a couch The location is very good, especially if you book any whale watching tours. big safe that fit my laptop and bigass camera mostly really quiet functional gym and hot tub free parking
Here are areas that could be improved on: The outlets don't work when the light is out, so you can't charge your devices at night! What genius thought of that?! The mattress if VERY hard. It is like sleeping on a carpet floor. Might be a plus for some, but my hips hurt like hell. Breakfast has a rather small selection and there is hardly any variety. If you like to indulge in a hotel breakfast, you will be disappointed. Also, there is no yoghurt. -The WiFi cuts out at random times and is...
