This restaurant was recommended to us by the handling guy from the airport. He claimed it was one of the best places to eat fish in Horta.
The restaurant is a bit off the main tourist area along the port, but next to a road that has regular traffic and sometimes loud motorcycles driving past. This makes it by far less enjoyable to sit outside, compared to other restaurants which are closer to the port with a sea-view. We sat inside.
Staff are friendly, service however a bit slow. For 3 fresh fish dishes of the day, we waited around 20min which is too long, considering the restaurant wasn't full anymore.
Fish was slightly burned on the skin side, which I like, but other people may dislike. The fish itself however was tender, silky and smooth. The side-dish was enjoyable.
Overall, a good experience. Price-wise, difficult to say as it's the first place I have been for dinner since arrival. But expect to spend at least 30€ per person for one main dish + a drink or two.
I would definitely recommend to try out other restaurants as well, maybe outside of Horta is you have a rental car, as prices will probably drop and it's probably there you will find true...
Read moreWHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR? We went here on our honeymoon vacation and everything was EXCELLENT! I told the waiter that the only things in life that I have no regrets on in life is “Marrying my husband and coming to his restaurant” I’m not sure if he was the waiter or the owner but this man deserves a raise and business either way. The hospitality and food is unmatched. BEST MEAL IVE HAD IN THE AZORES. And we have been dining in the “best of the best.” We were at another restaurant waiting to be seated that was supposed to be the “best” but I can tell you FOR SURE that this is a hidden gem of the island and you’d be silly to miss it. Go here! I hope for a long loving marriage but I also hope to come back here! Thanks for having us! We love you! Be back soon!!! :) love always, Marie & Riggs
Also I forgot the prices are the best on this island. Even if they aren’t, it’s the only restaurant worth $$$ here!
PS! This man was so attentive! No reservations and no waiting!! Only...
Read moreWonderful night at Principe. We came in late without reservation. The restaurant was full and the staff very busy. After five minutes we got a freshly cleaned and prepared table and were ready for fantastic night. We decided to go for a shared starter with a localized Spritz as aperitif, as mains the fish of the day, once with cold rice salad and humus and once with coconut mash, paired with a local white wine recommendation, as desert the tea cake and chocolate XO together with a local grappa. We have to admit that it was the best food we had so far on the Azores. We have been to good places in Angra do Heroísmo and Ponta Delgada before, but Principe is the best. Do not expect giant portions or hearty plates. Principe’s chef is all about providing a slightly different and more detailed experience to food. The team was also very welcoming, helpful and made us feel as if we were part of the family. It was a delicious, fun and...
