Océane Guest House — Hotel in Nazaré

This review dates a stay 2 years ago ... Why did I wait this long to write the review? I don't know. But still, this experience gives me the ick and that's why I feel the need to write down what happend.

From the start everything felt complicated, stressed and pressured. We are a gay couple and like to lay down by the pool, enjoy good dinners and plan lots of things in advance. Our days in Nazaré were planned to chill and relax. But none of this was what we experienced.

Upon check-in and after we setteled into our room, we noticed the crazy amount of notices for customers everywhere (most of them with restrictions). We also noticed the common areas have cameras and everytime we left our room, one of the two hosts came to us, proposing things, wanting to interact, this giving us a stressed/monitored feeling.

We personally were not a big fan of the breakfast because we love to have warm dishes / fresh baked eggs ... who were not avaiable.

Now for the part that made us leave our booking early: After breakfast (day2) we decided to go for a beach walk. During the walk we received a whatsapp that we should come back because we damaged a curtain rail in the room... As we were 100% unaware of wat the hosts we're talking about, we hurried back to check what was wrong! Up until today, both my husband and I are still 100% sure we did not damage that rail, that 1 side was out of the wall, but, we were blamed and critisized in a pretty arrogant way. (they were listening in the morning and heard how we 'opened the curtains brutally') That night, we decided to check out in the morning as soon as possible. Why? Because we felt stressed, watched, critisized and pressured the whole stay.

So, after checking out 1 night early, telling the hosts they can keep our money for the extra night, we received a booking.com fine because we damaged their propperty. (1 hour after check out ) After a discussion on whatsapp, the propperty cancelled our whole booking as -not showing up- and we received our total amount back (for the 3 nights). This is something we never asked for, none expected. But with this we were unable to leave this guesthouse a review on booking.com ... (it feels dishonest and monitored by the hosts).

Was the guesthouse, room, pool, view, ... beautifull? Absolutely YES! Would we ever come back here? 1000% NO. This experience 100% killed our holiday mood.

Btw: we travel almost every month, are honest guests and don't complaint easily. We never experienced anything like...

One of the nicest places we have stayed! This is a fairly new, luxurious B&B with great views and facilities. It's spotlessly clean and the owner could hardly have been more helpful. It overlooks the sea facing west, so we enjoyed the sunsets. We ended up spending more time there than we normally would simply because it was so nice. We had the room without the sea view -and it was huge with an excellent bathroom. Location-wise, it's up at the top of the cliff - easy walking distance to the funicular that goes down to the beach - so maybe not for you if you'd rather be 'on the beach'. Océane, recently built by the hosts, affords spectacular vistas from every point. The rooms, bathrooms, pool, pool deck and upper deck are stylish, pristine and gorgeous. Many amenities are offered…a Continental breakfast, fitness machines, cinema room, billiard room…Any restaurant in Sítio is only a 5 minute walk…with a special “shout out”...
