Quinta da Mó is set in luxuriant gardens deep in a wooded ravine at the edge of the vast caldera of Furnas. Formerly a collection of mill buildings powered by man-made rills and a stream cascading from the famous volcanic lake above, this quaint and peaceful complex consists of four self-contained houses, a breakfast room presided over by the delightfully attentive Pamela, a hot-tub, sauna and Turkish bath, and endless gardens to wander in and explore. There are also four characterful Muscovy ducks who guard a rowing boat available for the use of guests.||||Luisa and Valerio, the creators of this magical place, are welcoming and thoughtful, keen to make sure their guests are happy and relaxed.||||Outside the hotel’s high blue gates (always locked), the centre of Furnas itself is only ten minutes’ walk down the street. The town is reasonably stocked with bars and restaurants to suit all pockets – although kitchens tend to close at 21.30. On offer ¬– if you order a day in advance – is the local hot-earth-cooked speciality, Cozido. Even nearer to home are hot springs in which to bubble away your troubles. || ||There is neither bar nor restaurant on-site, but If it’s your dream to be able to hear nothing but birdsong, the gentle thunder of water pouring over the weir, and the occasional distant barking of a dog, then Quinta da Mó is the perfect place to step...

The owner Luisa was very sweet and welcoming and we were impressed with the way she runs her business... so much attention to detail! We appreciated the her handwritten note and gift to commemorate our stay. Her staff was simply wonderful and we particularly appreciated Pamala who cooked a lovely breakfast for us each morning, gave us advice on on what to see, where to eat, and helped us find a clinic to get a COVID test for our...
