What can I say? This is one of my favorite places on the planet! We stayed in the rooftop appartment: "Salema", with lots of space, a stunning terrace with a fantastic view on the ocean, which is just about 100 or 200 meter away from the Mare. You stay in heaven. A perfectly equiped kittchen exceeds my expectations, very very nice rooms, beds are big and I had best sleep. Our 5 night stay was very relaxing, also the breakfast is super, even the breakfast-basket, if you want to be on your own. Salema, my 4th. visit after 1983, 1986 and 1993, now is not anymore a Hippy fisherman village, sure, but there is still lots of things to explore. The best is the BEACH and the afternoon-coming back to the Salema appartment, after a beach walk, then have a cold beer, a Sagres or Super Bock, watch the scenery from the terrace again, the blue, green ocean, hear the waves and read a book, my lecture was: T.C. Boyle: Talk to Me. Thanks Daniela and Bärbel for all your friendly words and help! We will be back! Dieter & Martina from Cologne, Germany

A Maré ….in the village of Salema,Portugal . We were warmly greeted by DANIELA who took care to make our stay as pleasant as it could be. What a beautiful apartment we had for 6 days , “ THE SALEMA “ super large balcony with a view to the beach and sea , lounging chairs, patio table with chairs, large parasol. It had all the amenities, full kitchen with lunching island and modern appliances (dishwasher also) living room with couch and “lazy boy” , 55” TV, WIFI ect.. Bedroom was cosy with plenty of storage space and a view of the hill on the east side. It was only 5 minute drive to grocery store and prices were very reasonable. The only downside ,was the walk up to get to the apartment , 55 stairs on the outside to get to the SALEMA .Not for physically challenged. Parking is nearby and free. Everything was as stated on their website. I would recommend the A MARÉ . Thank you DANIELA and her mom Barbara. 😉🌹 Bobby Montreal, Canada.

Just got back from a few days in Salema and stayed at A Maré. This place is clean, comfortable and just a couple of blocks from Salema’s center and beach. Daniella was a great hostess and even stayed late to make sure a very small room issue was resolved. It is charming, just like Salema itself and would stay there again and recommend it for non-pretentious lodging. No parking on site but that was no problem, plenty of public parking, especially during non peak beach hours.

Extremely kind and friendly housekeeper. Also met the owner who was very friendly as well. The manager was responsive via whatapp since seems like they don’t stay on site except for a couple hours a day.

We booked a couple of weeks in advance on their website with our credit card, but then received an email that we made a “last minute” booking and need to pay in cash when we arrive, which was a minor hassle

The email instructions also stated that in-person check in is from 2-3:30 with the last check in at 3:15. Otherwise, it is automated check-in process. We found this stressful driving from Lisbon and less flexible than an airbnb or even hostel would allow.

The adjacent apartment to our studio must cross the studio patio to access their room which reduces privacy as those guests come and go if we want to use our patio or have our curtains drawn.

I would have purchased groceries at the minimarket instead of buying the breakfast offering.

No problems during our stay, but I didn’t find the value we received justified the price for the reasons mentioned above. We will check out other options...

My spouse and I recently rented the Paraiso studio apartment at A Mare and the entire experience was excellent! We arrived on a Sunday but key was waiting for us in the lock box. Daniela is a lovely host and will take care of your every need. The property is spotlessly clean and the location can't be beat! Easy walk to the beach, market, bus stop, restaurants ... Salema is a great beach town and this accommodation allows you to see it all. We took an Uber from the train station in Lagos for the same price as two bus fares with door to door drop off. For a wonderful day trip hop on the bus to Sagres and explore the Forteza exhibit honoring Henry the Navigator and all the explorers who sailed from this part of the Algarve. Impressive exhibit with much rich history to learn. Local market near the beach has everything you need for a super stay at A Mare. We enjoyed every evening with wine and snacks on the patio with an ocean view. You will not regret a booking here. Studio kitchen comes well equipped and AC worked great. Closets and bathrooms were very organized...
