Grand Hotel Sofianu — Hotel in Râmnicu Vâlcea

It was a horrible stay. What's wrong with the place, in order of my grievances: The beds, at least in our room were terrible. The main bed was OK, but the 1 person bed had a concave mattress, it was VERY uncomfortable. Horrible stuff, we didn't get served on the terrace, while 2 waiters, went by at least 3 times. We waited for 15-20 minutes, asked the manager. Problem: If you don't arrive with a Porsche, they will just ignore you. The Pool costs EXTRA. and quite a lot. Asked the manager to change that on booking. He did. Now it's back again and shows as free. This is FRAUD. You expect a 3 star hotel to be clean, this is a 4 star hotel that was filthy (see pictures) mosquitos in the room as the net wasn't sealing properly windows are not sealing properly and I got waken up by the car cleaning the park near the hotel. Toilet seat was broke.. they should have seen that, when they've 'cleaned' it. The manager offered a full refund for not posting this review. It's been more than 2 weeks, he keeps telling me that I'll get the money back, I still don't have it. I asked booking for a refund. I hope I can post my review there, as well. Gorgeous indoors, wonderful pool, horrible experience! Understaffed. Personnel was not at all hospitable. The heating system could only be on or off for the entirec hotel. So the hotel management decision for April 30th 2021 was for the heating to be on with 26 Celsius degrees outside. It was definitely a night to remember, as it took us a few hours to understand that we need to keep windows open in order to get some sleep. We were charged for pool entry after 9 pm, while the service was advertised as free to new visitors. When attempting to pay for our visit, we were asked for a greater price than the one on the booking invoice at the reception desk. The front office desk assistant didn't seem to have visibility over bookings made on Booking.com, nor have the knowledge on how such bookings could be checked in their systems. The restaurant only offered fast cooked meals (grills, fried stuff) and nothing slow cooked for the kids (except the soup of the day which took around 20 minutes to get warm and bring to the table, although previously mentioned that our kid was...

Hotel is state of the art, is like a Museum offering accommodation. Little outdated but still very comfortable in a decadent style. Facing the city park is also very quiet. Restaurant service / waiter was very good and eager to help but food eas much better in the past (2-3 years ago). Bad experience with poor cocktails. Bartender must be controlled by the owner directly. A Hugo and a Cosmopolitan both extremely sweet ( with syrups).… and without alcohol. After this experience you remain with a bitter taste despite the sweetness in the glasses :( I strongly recommend the hotel. Private guarded parking is another bonus and the indoor pool and SPA are very good additions. Accomodation payment in advance, upon arival is little strange but not a big deal. Very large and confy bed 2x2 m in a large room completes the feeling of relaxation after a long trip. We stayed several times here and we intend to come again but for sure will chose another...
