From the very beginning I've enjoyed working with the staff from The Nest Hotel. I specifically worked with Vincent who has been incredible! Before arriving to the hotel he sent me everything I needed via email and WhatsApp so I could prove my 24-hour Transit Quarantine for myself and my family of six, including four young children at the immigration office is upon arrival at the Kigali International Airport.
When we arrived it took a little longer than I had hoped to be picked up by the hotel staff but to be fair, there were multiple parties going to the nest hotel from my flight, and with the small kids we were of course the last ones out of the airport. It didn't help that the airline lost one of our bags.
We eventually got to the hotel which I feel as great value for the price we paid. My only complaint really doesn't have anything to do with the hotel, but the process of the government-mandated quarantine testing. It took over an hour for the two nurses to fill out the forms and test the six of us. When we were doing this at 11:30 at night after 30 hours of traveling it was a bit frustrating. However, that being said the hotel staff in particular Rosie was extremely helpful and keeping a light and cheerful mood.
If you have a family this is a great place to stay. We haven't been able to leave our rooms of course, but the room itself is very acceptable and they provide a fan which helps. This is my first time to Rwanda and I assumed I would want air conditioning but it is not necessary. The food is delivered direct to our room and included with the price we paid for our 24-hour Transit. One of the reasons I chose this over the other 16 hotels approved by the government for a Transit quarantine is because they gave a full 24 hours from the time you check in. That's different than other hotels who only give you until 6 pm. In my case this was important because we arrived at the hotel after 11 p.m. and did not check in until after midnight. Here we are one hour away from 6 p.m. and we still don't have our results. So other hotels would have charged us a second night, instead Vincent is letting us stay up until 24 hours from the time we checked in. It may not seem like a big deal but for a family of 6 an extra day of food and lodging can add up quickly and I'm extremely appreciative to Vincent.
After all said and done you're fairly limited in hotel choices due to the government mandates and I would happily stay at the nest hotel again because of their service, price and...
Read moreLess of a hotel, more of a building site.
We booked 3 nights so that we could go straight to our room as we landed very early in the morning. We were shown straight to our room, which was not ready. Towels missing, no curtains, bed not made up. Considering we had paid for a night we didn’t use, we would have expected this to be done. We then tried to shower and there was only cold water. And then to sleep ... with someone hammering directly on the wall behind our bed.
The noise from the builders was relentless, from 7.30 am in the morning until after 10pm at night. When, at 10pm, I asked the builders to stop loading bricks into a truck outside our window, saying that it was a hotel, not a building site, one laughed and said it was a building site as well. Oh, and the toilet door doesn’t shut properly.
The house next door is being demolished by had, so the noise is unlikely to to end soon.
There was no hot water for the majority of our stay and there was no effective internet in the part of the house we stayed in, no curtains on the (glass) door to the balcony , so builders could see into our bedroom and light came in all night.
On the upside, we didn’t get charged for the night we didn’t stay in the room then could shower or sleep in it...
Read moreWe stayed for a total of two nights. The location is excellent, close to many restaurants that you can walk to if you don't have a car, if you do have a car then getting around is easy. We found the accomodation clean. The room had a queen bed, table and chair, cupboard and ensuite toilet +shower. The shower had great water pressure and hot water. You have access to use the kitchen (the fridge was a little dirty inside). The wifi was very good by our room but downstairs in the living area it was really bad. We had breakfast given to us the one morning, it was yogurt with fruit and muesli and dry toast plus coffee. You are provided with bottled water as well.
There are two big negatives however - 1) we got the back room which is opposite the water pump. Everytime someone uses water in the house the pump makes a really loud high pitched noise. Not so great in the evening when you trying to sleep. 2) the bathroom had an aweful smell coming from the drain, it was really terrible.
Other than that we had a good stay. The staff were friendly. We would return but hopefully get a room not so close to the...
