Hotel under the Gate — Hotel in Bardejov

The hotel is in a wonderful location close to the historic centre. We arrived on Saturday and were able to park directly outside for free until 7:00 am Monday morning when the hotel kindly booked paying for us for 3 hours until departure ( for a fee).thank goodness we were not staying on a weekday.|The room was clean and had great air con. We ate in the hotel on Saturday evening and the food was excellent. Now for the bad news... the stairs are quite steep and curved so it is hard to carry my suitcase up to the room with no offer of help from staff| During our stay, the room was not cleaned, beds made or towels changed. Breakfast was buffet style on Sunday, but on Monday there was a menu. The food was ok, but no yogurt, cereal, fruit on offer as there had been the previous day. |The final disappointment was being charged 7euros for a lost room card key. We were never informed of this in advance and I had invadvertantly packed mine in my case so rather than having to unpack my bags in the reception, I was forced to pay. Most disappointing...

Liked · Room was what I expected. A bit small, but nicely designed, very well equipped and spacious bathroom. Balcony was spacious and if it weren´t so cold, it would be perfect for having a drink there. The hotel is located directly in city center, that is very useful. Staff was helpful if asked, handling professionally payment etc.. All what you would expect from standard quality hotel.||||Disliked · Breakfast was average/below average. Especially during Sunday only one person was taking care of the breakfast and he did not know/want to handle important stuff. He was basically only taking used dishes to the kitchen, not fulfilling the food if trays became empty. When asked he did what was required, but then again, he went on polishing glasses behind the bar, or doing something what was not important during breakfast. Hot water for tea/coffee was missing, juice ran out, salami ran out.... And it was still one hour until breakfast slot was finished.||Last but not least, I was missing minibar/fridge...

My second stay after 6 years. Totally disappointed. Honestly, a big disappointment. Considering that this is the best-rated hotel in Bardejov, this negatively reflects the city as a whole. The hotel restaurant was only open until 6 p.m., and the hotel wellness? Closed (same as my previous experience, so was wellness ever opened?). The room had outdated furnishings, a worn-out bed, extremely unstable Wi-Fi, breakfast like something from a spa in the 1980s, no private parking (only across the street and free only between 6:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m.)... And when I asked the receptionist for disposable slippers, she said that she "isn't authorized to do so". I was expecting any kind of reaction, but this shocked me.
