This was our third and last hotel on our SA adventure. Unfortunately, it was also the least pleasing of our stays.||Problems often happen on holidays but it is the manner in which they are rectified that provides the benchmark. On entry to our room it became quickly evident that there was a problem with the air-conditioning unit. The efforts to resolve this ranged from the comical (placing a bucket to catch the leaking water) to downright untruths (the system is not designed to operate below 20 degrees). ||I had a certain sympathy for Zikho as duty manager as she seemed to have all the responsibility of a management position without the corresponding authority to make decisions. The absence of the Assistant General Manager (does not work weekends) and the General Manager (on leave) did not help matters. I appreciate it is difficult to source an a/c engineer at weekends but I doubt that call would ever have been made only for my continual intervention and repeated requests for updates. Suffice to say, the problem took 24 hours to resolve. To save any further embarrassment I have not posted videos of the incident or the state in which the room was left.||Not a great way to start a holiday. On a brighter note, I had the good fortune to meet with Malawi’s greatest export - namely Wilson who served in the cocktail bar. What an asset to the hotel and he introduced me to the the pleasures of Blind Tiger gin which will now forever compete with Hendricks in my affections!||Air-con problem aside, this is a basic no frills hotel and I would not recommend particularly for the elderly or those with small children as the layout is not suitable for either age group. Not even Wilson could...
Read moreWe recently had the pleasure of staying at Ocean View House, and It was such a great experiences. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with warmth and hospitality that made us feel right at home.
The highlight of our stay was, without a doubt, the couples 90min spa massage. The massage therapists were incredibly skilled, and by the end of the session, we felt rejuvenated and completely at peace. It was worth every cent and more.
Breakfast at Ocean View House was another delight. The buffet was absolutely amazing, with a variety of fresh, delicious options that catered to all tastes. Whether you're a fan of a hearty fry-up or prefer something lighter and healthier, there's something for everyone. I found myself looking forward to breakfast each morning, knowing it would set the perfect tone for the day ahead.
The honesty bar was a unique and charming touch that we thoroughly enjoyed. It was well-stocked with a selection of wines, beers, and spirits, allowing us to pour ourselves a drink at our leisure. The relaxed atmosphere of the bar made it a great place to unwind after a day of exploring.
Our room was great too, offering a perfect blend of comfort and luxury. Waking up each morning to the sound of the ocean and stepping out into our own little paradise was an experience I'll never forget.
In summary, our stay at Ocean View House was nothing short of spectacular. Every aspect of our visit, from the spa to the breakfast to the room, exceeded our expectations. If you're looking for a serene getaway with all the right touches, I highly recommend Ocean View House. We can't...
Read moreOne of the first times I rate an accommodation 3 stars, as some decent pre-trip research usually prevents 3 star accommodations. Booked this accommodation because of the loving reviews and beautiful pictures. However, at arrival we were led to an almost off-site building (probably bought later on for expansion) with very basic, and clean, rooms. As a result, our stay didn't feel like a stay at the Ocean View House as depicted on the pictures. More like a basic airbnb without the charm of meeting the local owner. On the upside, the breakfast (after reaching the main building) was of good quality with friendly staff. More downside is that we didn't have a key of the door to the alleyway of our room, so once this door was shut we couldn't get to our room. After finding a staff member around 8 PM (they seem to be scarce around this hour) we were told this scenario wasn't possible, as our room key should fit the alleyway door, but this clearly wasn't the case. So after trying to explain it 3 times, we were lucky our neighbors let us into the alleyway. Finally, the bedroom area of the (Travellers) room is connected to the bathroom area, with walls that are not connected to the ceiling, so the privacy is at a minimum. Consequently, the breakfast and location partially compensate for the basic and impersonal/-practical actual accommodation, so the verdict reaches its max with the 3...
