Firwood Lodge — Hotel in Gauteng

We are a group of 18 people travelling to South Africa for research. We made a reservation through email with Firwood Lodge and got a confirmation for our booking without paying a deposit. We were told by email that a deposit would not be needed at this point, we could simply pay upon arrival. One night before the arrival I contacted the hotel via email to let them know about our time of arrival and make sure everything is okay. I was informed by a single sentence email that there is no booking in my name and that I should call the next morning because it was already too late at night to talk on the phone (!) We were not given any alternatives for accommodation in a city that is NOT SAFE for foreigners and for such a big group of people who could not easily find a place to stay, or even an apology! We were fortunate to spend two nights at your 4 star Firwood Lodge recently and would like to compliment you on a hearty breakfast we had as well as the lovely decor of unit 9 . However on a negative note late evening we discovered that both bed sheets and pillow cases were badly torn but were replaced the next morning after reporting the problem . We think this unbecoming of a 4 star establishment and that the housekeeping manager / staff should be made aware of these short comings for the future . Great place. Private and relaxing area's. The room had good lighting. Good customer service. Big (55") flat screen TV in the room. In room Hot tub and shower. Good wi-fi connection, although they could improve the wi-fi access point set up by only having one access point name across the premises instead o one for every area. Breakfast is decent. The premises is in an area surrounded by restaurants, bars and coffee shops, nice gate away if you stay for more than 2 nights. And I forgot to mention the pool and the sports bar.
