As part of an Australian tour party, we recently spent one night at the Oceans Hotel in Mossel Bay South Africa.||As we drove in we could see that this hotel is old and requires maintenance. Even the signage located below the pitched roof was flaking and starting to fade. This hotel has rated itself as 3 stars and if they are serious, they should bring in an independent hotel reviewer. ||I thought I might be a bit harsh with my 2 out of 5 star rating, but I sought a collective view from my fellow group members and some even went as low as 1.5 stars. It’s well below what we experience in our home country.||I’ll start with the positives; the staff are friendly and accomodating when reporting issues, the bed is comfortable, the on-site bar is relatively cheap (however will not accept eftpos payments below 100 Rand) and the restaurant food is ok.||Now the negatives; the rooms are old and outdated, the shower is open and water runs along the bathroom floor, the shower floor and wall tiles have mould, the back ‘barn doors’ need a paint and there are gaps surrounding the door frame, the wall mounted cable channels are falling apart allowing electrical cords to be exposed, our ceiling fan did not work on arrival so a maintenance person arrived and managed to get it going but only on the lowest and slowest setting and during the night it stopped, rooms were hot and humid with no air conditioning (they gave up an electric portable fan when we asked), the pool water was cloudy and certainly not inviting and finally if your expecting a darkened room forget it as the curtains do not have pelmets.||Overall, a very disappointing experience and not to our...
Read moreWe booked a room for two and when we arrived we were shown a 3 bedroom right at the back of the hotel. We asked if there was not a smaller and cosier place closer to the Hotel entrance as there was no people staying in the front smaller rooms. The receptionist was able to assist after calling her Manager. The room was equipped for two but when we wanted to make coffee we was only given 1 small holder of milk for two people (See pics below) I approached reception and had to pay R15.00 for a packet which contained 2 x milk, coffee and teabags. The breakfast was not included and we again had to pay R160.00 for this. Well this is where the "One Star" give comes in Your order has to be placed the previous day and once we had sat down and had our coffee the waiter came and informed us that their was no fish cakes available and could we choose another item from the menu Food arrived ice cold so I took it back to the kitchen and it was warmed up in the micowave. Scrambled eggs had then formed a crust and went back to the kitchen untouched. Cutlery on the set table was dirty and still had food on. When waiter was notified she said that the table had not been cleaned from the previous night and apologized Well Im still trying to figure out what "people" as we were only two families booked into this Hotel. Needless to say we cancelled our breakfast for the next day . Oceans Hotel will have to 'certainly " jack up" their services in many ways as Im sure we were not the only two persons who was or has not been happy with their stay at this Hotel which is...
