We wanted to cancel our holiday when we found out that Uvongo Beach was closed due to sewage contamination prior to arrival. We asked Uvongo holidays if they could rather refund us our money when the president announced that all beaches will be closed over the festive period. We were rudely told that we would loose all our money and that we wouldn't have gone to the beach if it rained anyway. We were forced to keep our booking and continue our stay. The whole family including kids had explosive diaheria and projectile vommitiing for a couple of days due to the drinking water that is also contaminated, all the shops are stocked up with bottled water in all isles so everyone knows that the tap water is not for consumption but none of this was told to us by Uvongo holidays prior or on arrival. We had to hear from Neighbours at the complex that we can't consume the tap water.
The unit has beautiful views of the sea and beach that you cannot swim in or walk on so you are forced to spend your sea holiday at a swimming pool that is filled with the same contaminated water that comes from the taps, no chlorine in the pool to kill the bugs, only salt water. To top it all you are only allowed 6 people in the pool at a time, there were at least 50 or more people in the complex. Very hard to make turns in swimming when most kids are in the pool for most of the day. We understand that you wanted to place covid 19 protocol in place but if you were so set on following protocols then you would not allow anyone in the pool as it is a public place of gathering, you should have offered your guests a refund of their money so that they can be at their own home instead of being forced to be a prisoner at a holiday place.
There are signs up everywhere in the unit as well in the complex, don't do this... don't do that.... or you will be fined blah blah blah... really makes you feel like a prisoner and like a naughty child, not very welcoming at all and what do you do with the money you make when you fine people?
We all know that masks are manditory, I was leaving the pool area wet from head to toe with my two kids who were both wearing a mask and I was carrying the bag and towels and was about 5 meters away from the unit we stayed at. I was told by the security guard to put a mask on. I was busy taking out my mask from the bag while walking to the unit and was suddenly Shouted at by the care taker of the complex so rudely and so aggressively because my mask was not on my face. There was no one around except myself and the two kids and the security guard stationed at the gate. This care taker made a point of making sure that everyone could hear him, screamed at me so aggressively in front of my kids and his security guard. This man should not be allowed to deal with people because he clearly has anger management issues amongst other psychiatric disorders. Then moments later an email from Luzelle from Uvongo holidays stating that they will call the authorities if I do not comply to the regulations, without calling me to find out what transpired also just assumed that Mr care taker is right. Mr care taker could have politely asked for my mask to be worn at all times but he didn't. One of the neighbors also said that they had an encounter with the rude care taker who also addressed them in an aggressive manor.
We are now home and reflecting back on our very expensive holiday where we could not do much, makes it feel like a total waste of money and time. The only friendly person we dealt with is Gerrie, she was being very helpful during our stay and maybe she can teach the care taker and Uvongo Holidays some customer...
Read moreApart from the location, this place was terrible. Stayed at unit 5. Pictures were deceiving. It showed a gas stove was available on this unit but they lied, due to loadshedding we had to go and purchase our own, an expense that we did not account for. The lady incharge (Luz) hounded us for the deposit despite agreeing to accept the deposit when we arrived. She also gave us trouble about the forms that we had to fill in stating because we didnt send the forms, we would not be allowed on the premises. The forms were emailed to her 2 weeks earlier to which she acknowledged. Unit is infested with ants (even in the fridge). Main bedroom was an en-suite but the toilet was not working, so we only had one functional toilet. Most of the kitchen cabinets were chained and locked so we had access to only a few cutlery and dishes. Check out is 8-9am. At 8:15am, this white lady entered the unit and kicked us out. Despite seeing that we were packing, she barged in 3 times and even threatened to deduct from the deposit for checking out late - we checked out at 9:20am. Network is terrible as well. It's a beautiful place but unfortunately it's managed by the wrong people who are not maintaining it and have no experience with...
Read moreThe owner of my apartment was great however he is bound and governed by the damn pathetic CARETAKER Of place, this man is dreadful nd rude with no people skills, we had just arrived from Cape town, hence had asked my elderly parents from Durban to meet us at the chalet for lunch. The rules sent to us prior, had a day visitors rule, time in and time out, but this OLD frustrated excuse for a man refused my guests in.bends the rules as per his hearsay. I.have to agree with previous review where you feel you booked into a prison. Terrible, dreadful on all levels, he says he is the chairperson of the board of trustees but in my opinion, he does not have the resort or the investors best interest at heart .his name is Edgar from number 13, he is a sad frustrated and spiteful to the very people who...
