Heerengracht Hotel — Hotel in Sol Plaatje Local Municipality

Booked in here through work for a two night stay, partly due to the unavailability of my preferred accommodation and partly due to the fact that they had working wireless in order to ensure I remained connected whilst traveling. They didn’t. And you get what you pay for, which isn’t much. The room was tiny, they didn’t have half the TV channels they claimed to have and the shower was awful. You either froze or were scalded, and they hadn’t even bothered to take the original price sticker off the glass of the shower door. Breakfast was pretty ordinary – nobody even bothers to check if you want eggs. And there was no butter for the toast laid out...it seems like if you don’t ask, you don’t get. Which is fair enough if I would like fresh Norwegian salmon for breakfast. But butter on my toast you would think would be standard fare. And noisy? Crikey! I heard every car going past throughout the night and into the morning. Which is a real pity as the bed was lovely and comfy. How it received a 3 star grading from the South African Tourism Grading Council is beyond me. “3 Stars: Very good quality in the overall standard of furnishings, service and guest care”. The AC in the bedroom did not work. The one in the kitchen-area was so noisy you could not sleep with it on. Since it was +40 outside it would have been nice to have AC. The bathtub was not fastened properly so it moved quite a lot when we tried to shower. I say try because the water pressure was very,very low. It took a long time to get wet. The bedside lamp looked beautiful but did not work so you had to get up to put the lights out. If you wanted to change channel on the TV you had to go to the reception and ask for help. No remotes - they say they get stolen. Go somewhere else. There are a lot of places to stay...

On visiting the guesthouse I felt unwelcome. The water was off the whole day. On enquiring I found out that the water was turned off because the geysers leak. The water pressure in the room is extremely low, the flow in the shower is about 2 l/s. on the first morning I had to take a cold shower as there was no warm water. There was no milk in the room, I was promised milk will be placed in the room, it was not done. The last morning I had to leave 07h00 to catch a plane. I asked if I can have breakfast at 06h50. The answer was no, but they can pack some type of take away. Not acceptable for the price...
