Oleander Guest House — Hotel in Sol Plaatje Local Municipality

My second interaction with Oleander Guest House was even worse than my first, and prompted this review. During my first interaction I tried to make a booking for a chocolate tasting event. However, no one answered a telephone after several attempts to contact them. I drove to the venue and was told by the receptionist their phone's are out of order. This was strange to me as they had several tables booked already, and I doubt every single one of those bookings was made in person and that their telephone's would be out of order for so long. My second interaction with this establishment leads me to believe the "out of order phones" excuse was a lie to simply cover poor service, as poor service seems to be their norm. We tried to make a booking for a small wedding reception and rooms for guests. The reception was not very welcoming, and we waited several days for a simple quote - which when received was dismal to say the least! No menu options - starter of bread basket with marmalade, some main meat dish options (no indication of what else is included e.g. rice, potatoes, vegetables) and desserts which "would be sent later". The rooms were incorrectly quoted for the wrong number of guests! Not to mention the very poor grammar and spelling in the e-mail which is highly unprofessional and does not inspire confidence in clients. Beautiful venue, extremely poor service. Would...

This was the highlight of an otherwise lacklustre experience of Kimberley. The staff is great, they really go the extra mile. The food was great. The rooms are well furnished, with everything you need. The bar fridge (honesty bar) is a nice touch given one hardly finds these things in hotels anymore. The beds have electric blankets!!! An iron, ironing board, ample towels, Sherry/port wine is complementary. The rooms are cleaned daily. And their pool deck is amazing. It’s also value for money. We had an absolutely wonderful stay at this guesthouse! The staff were warm, friendly, and went out of their way to make us feel welcome. The breakfast was delicious and beautifully prepared — a perfect way to start the day. The rooms were spotless, spacious, and well-equipped with everything needed for a very comfortable stay. You can really tell that a lot of thought and care goes into making guests feel at home.
