Road tripping through South Africa with some family (five of us in total), we made a booking for Padlangs for our overnight stay in Kimberley. First hiccup is that, when making the booking, it was not clear it was for the location at 5 Solomon as opposed to the Atlas street location. We showed up to the Atlas street location and was told we needed to go to 5 Solomon, which we did promptly, but then had to wait over 20 minutes to have someone there to help us (the two are only a few minutes apart). We had booked two rooms, which were advertised to have air conditioning. Upon finally being helped, we were shown the two rooms, which were actually in two separate houses that required us to walk through someone's back patio to go between them. The room my wife and I stayed in did not have any air conditioning as advertised, had several spiders and other insects sharing our room, and had been very poorly cleaned (many cobwebs and dirty areas that had clearly been there a while) including having extra toilet paper shoved into the window covering with visible dirt on it. The bathroom was also very poorly designed (though that is perhaps no fault of the owners) with the mirror being on an opposite wall from the sink and the door being unable to open more than halfway because it hits the shower. It's also worth noting the shower door is missing and instead a shower curtain is hung from the frame of the shower as a makeshift door, which results in some awkward positions in the shower and a lot of water finding its way into the rest of the bathroom. Easily the most unpleasant guesthouse experience I...
Read moreI had a great experience at this guest house! It’s a really beautiful, clean, and peaceful place perfect for anyone looking to relax or focus. The staff is professional and friendly, and one thing I really appreciated is that they have multiple Wi-Fi backups. Even during load-shedding, I stayed connected without any problems, which is a huge plus.
The only thing that truly frustrated me was their strict “no additional guests allowed” rule. I stayed for four days, and at some point, I really wanted to have a friend come over — not even to sleep, just to visit during the day — but they were very firm about this policy. I respect that they have their reasons, maybe for safety or privacy, but it did make me feel a bit restricted. I feel this should be communicated even more clearly upfront, because it definitely affected my overall experience.
Aside from that, everything else was top-tier. If you’re someone who prefers total privacy and no disturbances, this place is absolutely perfect. Just be ready for the guest rule — otherwise, it’s truly a...
Read morewe were pleasantly surprised when we arrived. Henk the owner was very helpful and offered to store our luggage from early that morning so that we did not have to carry our luggage around until we could book in. Booking in was fuss free and easy. The room was clean and neat and has everything one could wish for, except cable TV. The shower was great and the beds are very comfortable. Out side the room is a small private pool wish I think would be great to cool off in the summer months. The kitchenette had a gas stove, microwave, full fridge, Kettle and cutlery/cups/glasses for the whole family staying over. The room can accommodate up to 4 people. This place will become my regular place to stay when we are in Kimberly. The only negative is that it is located in the suburbs and so not too accessible...
