We stayed at the Mavilla Guest House for three nights in March 2015. We stayed in their balcony room. This room on the first floor was quite small but for our needs it was just o.k. The room offered a small bathroom with washing basin, toilet, and shower. The room had no air-conditioning, which we found a big miss because of the very warm weather mid March. The decoration and furniture of the room were typical for an old Cape house, which we liked. But the balcony was totally useless with no view at all, a lot of noise from the main road and old and rusty furniture. On the first floor we also found a large common room with old Cape style furniture which we found a big plus. At colder evenings it’s nice to have a cozy place to sit and relax. This room also offered a shared balcony with view on the main entrance. A fridge and free coffee and tea facilities were provided in the breakfast room.||||The Guest House offers a shared terrace near the entrance and a separate pool. Unfortunately the water of the swimming pool was much too cold, so we were not able to swim. Besides that the maintenance of the pool was quite bad. The water was not cleaned and refreshed during our stay. The grounds around the pool were not cleaned for a long time and we found a lot of garbage and dog poo around the pool. This area felt like it was devastating. Not inviting to go for a swim at all.||||Vic and Esme, the owners of this Guest House, were very friendly and helpful. They really cared about their guests. A fresh breakfast was served in the breakfast room every morning. We could choose between a cold or warm (English) breakfast. The cold breakfast was quite simple but the warm breakfast was great with eggs, bacon and sausages.||||For the price this Guest House might be a good choice for Stellenbosch. But for us it was a mixed bag. The friendly owners who were really caring about their guests and the Cape atmosphere of the house were a big plus. But the lack of maintenance of parts of the complex makes that we will not return to this Guest House on our next visit to...
Read morePlanned to stay for three days, but luckily we had a change in plans and only stayed there one evening.||Although the owners are very friendly and helpful the rooms are not that great. Cushions are stained and I did not feel comfortable using them, ending up sleeping without a cushion. Breakfast were a choise of three cereals with yogurt. ||Very small TV with only SABC channels. DSTV channels shared by owners and guests and...
Read moreThis was a first class stay! Tannie Esme went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable and enjoyable. She was always on hand to help and would supply us with fruit, pastries and extra milk. She took HJ my 8 year old son to the park and played along with him and her grandson, returned soaked in sweat from all the running and playing! We appreciate it a lot thank you! The rooms was squeaky clean as well. Will recommend this...
