I drive past the museum every week, and I've always wondered what what the exhibits are like inside. But I've always assumed I would have to pay an entrance fee to see them. I recently fell victim to scammers who emptied all of my savings, so I thought I'd spend the day crossing local things off my bucket list before my planned exit. I was pleasantly surprised to find that there is no entrance fee.
The Pierneef collection is extensive and beautiful. I never thought I'd get to see so many of his originals.
I really loved Forel's macro photographs in his Synchromies series. Perhaps the topic of growth and decay was all the more relatable due to my mindset.
The building is lovely, the art is sublime, the staff and security are friendly, and there is ample safe parking.

Read moreQuite a peaceful museum, thoroughly enjoyed the pieces of art displayed, and a relatively wide range might I add. They had paintings, sculptures, drawings, photographs, and various intriguing displays and set ups. I’d say it’s worthwhile if you’re looking for something to do on any given day. Visited Stellenbosch that day and stumbled upon it on our drive around.
There’s a theme of political, and socioeconomic background throughout the museum. Entrance was free on the Wednesday I visited and the staff was friendly.
