I stayed there for about a week in late October of 2019. I was traveling with my family members and we rented 2 rooms. One with 2 twin beds, one with a queen-size bed and washer/dryer in the room. ||The hotel looks nice from the outside - modern, urban and hip. But the hotel is dated in the inside - dimly lit hallways with dirty and worn out carpet, to begin with. From 1st to 4th floor (I think) is a residence part of the hotel meaning that long term tenants with cooking, cleaning and other day-to-day stuff going on. ||We're on the 7th floor and the elevators were always busy. The size of the rooms was average, we're in South Korea where space is at a premium. It had a kitchen with a small stove, fridge and the cooking pots/pans. So if you're planning on cooking while traveling, it will work for you. But we ate out every night and we didn't need a kitchen. Instead, I wished there was more room for other things - sitting and spreading suitcases and such. Because there were some people cooking I could smell some unpleasant odors in the hallways. ||The beds were uncomfortable - cheap and hard mattress. And it was covered with plastic! What!@#||The front desk personnel was unfriendly. They provided the minimum assistance.||The overall experience that I had at Urban Place was very disappointing and would like to share it with future travelers. ||Also, if you want to explore Seoul stay near Myeongdong, not in Gangnam. Myeongdong offers much richer historical and cultural experiences with easier access. And the hotel prices in Myeongdong is about the same as it...
Read moreLocation was alright, 750m away from Gangnam station. There are a few restaurants and convenience stores nearby, but would recommend travelling outside for other food options instead. Travelling to the more Central Area was a bit of a hassle because hotel is located quite a distance away, and the trains require you to travel a round to get to the more central areas like Hongdae / Myeongdong / Dongdaemun. The rooms was not the cleanest, the bed sheets had hair and dust. Felt very uncomfortable to sleep on. Toilet sink was not cleaned properly, there were definitely quite a lot of short hairs on the sink. Felt very uncomfortable to sleep on. Towels were also dirty, there were definitely brown / black and red stains. Did not opt for housekeeping service. Also, if you are going there during winter time, no air conditioners would be available for you to use. The only option is to open windows for ventilation / air. Floors are slightly heated. Water heater is not consistent at all during showers, occasional cold water. The staff was very friendly, check in was fast and easy. Do also note that you are required to go down to the reception to get items after 5PM. There is a small gym and also a laundry room available. There was two lifts available for us to use, BUT one lift goes to odd numbered floors and another lift goes to even numbered floors. Definitely a hassle when you are in a rush. We also tried requesting for late checkout, BUT we had to pay extra for that so we just...
Read moreThe first room I got was really dirty. Like I-was-compelled-to-get-cleaning-supplies-to-clean-the-room-myself dirty. I think that I am an average person with average standards about hygiene. But finding other people's hair on the bedding, and bathroom tiles lined with black molds isn't really what you expect from a "hotel," right? Complained at the front desk and was given a new room that was much better so I think the service is okay, and really want to think that I was just super unlucky with the first room, but who knows.
The location is great -- walking distance from Gangnam. The thing that was a bit of a disappointment for me was that I couldn't find a decent grocery market nearby (there is a small convenience store in the hotel's lobby floor) so had to buy/eat at restaurants, even though the primary reason I chose this hotel was because the room was equipped with cooking utensils and stove etc. to cook.
Overall, it's an okay place if you are looking for a place to crash after a night out in Gangnam but I wouldn't really recommend this "hotel" to families or people who want to sleep in...
