Great place to stay to explore Cadiz on foot, close to La Caleta beach, the historic quarter, cathedral, castle of San Sebastián and the Mercado de Abastos, central main market. Lots of bars. Right outside is Taberna Casa Manteca famous for its tortillitas camerones. We had the superior double room which was huge, lots of space for two of us, loads of room for all our luggage as we are on a road trip. Stayed three nights, great location, busy but quiet. Parking is limited in an underground garage but if available (can’t reserve) when you get there, it’s 18€ per night which is pretty steep but public parking is 15€ for 24 hours. Rooms and bathroom spotless and well serviced. Very modern. Loved the fact there are loads of USB sockets, very rare in most hotels and we are usually fighting for them. Bathroom spacious and well stocked. Large shower but the small shower head isn’t fixed so if you are a lady who doesn’t want to get your hair wet under the rainfall headevery time you have a shower, you have to hold the small one over you which is a nuisance - probably my one criticism. There was abundant hot water which was excellent considering the water is solar heated, I was expecting it to run out after one shower after I saw the sign saying please use sparingly. Breakfast was ok. We got it cheaper when we booked but I would not have wanted to have paid the full 18€ for it. There was lactose free milk in a jug which made me nervous as someone only needs to mix them up and you could be ill. No gluten free options on the buffet, the only options really was jamon and bacon as I can’t eat eggs either. Staff in the dining room on the first morning seemed unfriendly so I didn’t feel like asking if they had any gluten free bread etc. (staff improved slightly the next day when a different lady was on but I just made do with bacon and cold jamon as I had done the day before). Only fruit was apples and bananas, no oranges or soft fruit at all which is very poor...
Read moreVery strange way of paying for hotel. They informed me that "Spaniśh law" forbids to pay by cash over special amounts ...but first of all they should do this earlier before arrival. They dont have any way to solve this problem........apart of paying by cash without a bill( Is it not against the law?) When i asked if i could deposit a money in a bank or a bank machine they indicated me some places to do this but they "forgot" to add that this places are only for the withdrawal not to deposit money. At the end they allowed me to pay for our stay with my sisters card(diffrent name and surname)---Is it not against the Spanish law?.Everything made by "Spanish law guard" middleaged guy.I dont know his name.I stayed a few times in Spain and I did this this time after leaving Cadiz---and belive me this "Spannish law" was no so restricted and I could pay by cash even a higher amount|Room is very raw in items.I am not a great fun of tv but one tv device for three bedrooms is under any standards i have seen before.Indefinite sytem of housekeeping one day they ask me by sms if i want t clean my room.Despite of my answer that i dont need it that day, they informed me that the they did it.The next day nobody answer about anything and nobody came to clean the room.Definitely I will back to Cadiz one day but not to this"Spanish law fortress"||In plus---Beautiful Cadiz.Great location in the centre.Close to Maroco...
Read moreAn excellent location between the waterfront and the narrow streets of the old town. Our room, 6125, was on the second floor away from the lift. With the windows closed we had no noise, but were left reliant on a not very cool air conditioner fixed at 24 degrees - in my case a little too high for comfort. If I stayed again I might request an electric fan.|We hugely enjoyed shared use of the third-floor outdoor terrace with views to the sea. Don't miss the sunset. Another huge bonus is the laundry with washer drier. No coins or any of that nonsense, although instructions are in Spanish. Inevitably I ended up the wash-that-never-ends but the receptionist was kind and helpful, even phoning a friend for advice. Also, you might need to buy your own laundry liquid. |The low point was breakfast. Limited fruit and cereal and bread not to our taste. As we were staying for a few days stocked up at a supermarket.|Cadiz itself is said to be struggling economically through loss of jobs and opportunities, with younger people leaving in search of these. However the place has a great spirit. The cathedral has a calm, warm and welcoming atmosphere after the rich glories of Granada, Cordoba...
