I was so torn about what to rate. Let me be clear about the negatives. There are only a few but they may be important to you. 1) this place is old and however it was constructed, you can hear every step every person makes anywhere else in the hotel at all times! I can eventually sleep anywhere at any time under any circumstances, but before I went to sleep and as soon as I woke up every day and every night, I could hear everything. This place has a separate garden room section though that might be quieter as it doesn't have multiple floors. Make sure to book there if you are a light sleeper. 2) the TV has about three channels, NONE OF THEM in English. Obviously this might not matter for a lot of people but in the evenings I really like to put on some noise to block out all the footsteps from the rest of the hotel but I can't navigate the TV and even if I could, everything was in Spanish. I'm sure that's how you feel when you come over to America, fine, but at least get a TV provider with a guide so I don't have to slowly surf through every single channel to confirm that yeah, there's nothing on and it's all in Spanish. 3) the town we were in was ADORABLE and walkable and clean and safe. That said, there was nothing to do there. I was there for work so this did not matter AT ALL for me, but keep it in mind if you want to explore Madrid, it's not in the city proper and kind of secluded in a suburban neighborhood. If you're looking for nice restaurants or nightlife, it's not within walking distance, but coffee and groceries are. Ok, but I want to stress I gave this place five stars because it's adorable and the service was absolutely impeccable. I listed the negatives for complete disclosure but I will without doubt come back here if I am in Madrid again. Everyone I encountered was so nice and the room was clean and a good size and really cute. Thank you for a...
Read moreI regard myself as a kind of Faded Glory fan...I am always looking for European hotels as they USED to be, before globalization took over...I try to avoid hotels where every room looks exactly as if it might be...This hotel is the former residence of a member of the Spanish aristocracy. But the conversion to a hotel has been very fortuitous. The bar actually resembles a hotel bar in a 1930s film;; the gardens are delightful and somewhat formal. The rooms are excellent--LOTS of pillows, modern up to date bathrooms, AND a closet with built in drawers for your underwear and socks. May I also mention the staff...very friendly and ready to help at all times. The hotel is a bit distant from the city center, but a mere 400 meters to the 70 or 11 buses, and if one is a bit more ambitious, 800 meters to the Arturo Soria metro station, which gets you to the Puerta del Sol (changing once) with no delay (unlike the buses, always subject to the famous Madrid traffic) The hotel is located in an elegant residential neighborhood. . I might also mention that the rates charged in this hotel are considerably less than most of the hotels in the...
