Our experience during our stay was nothing short of a nightmare and an utter disaster. It was as terrible as it could possibly get, with unhelpful staff, noisy rooms (sounds of water disposal and other guests being loud at 4-5 am), and a plethora of excuses and caveats.
The issues we encountered included: Overcrowding in the rooms, with 6-7 people staying in a 4-bed room. People smoking from the balcony in the middle of the night. Repeated calls to the hostel's phone number for assistance went unanswered. Upon visiting the lobby in person, we were informed that we should have contacted them via WhatsApp instead. Signs indicating that the electricity would be shut down due to ongoing construction work. Common areas feels to being in a "soft opening" phase, yet they were not fully functional, and we were not informed of this. A somewhat messy shared room. When we sought assistance from the lobby, the response we received was that there wasn't much they could control or do.
What seems to be sorely lacking are clear rules (such as what is allowed, what is not allowed, and quiet hours) as well as empathy from the staff and their willingness to help. We are extremely disappointed and frustrated with...
Read moreThe hostel just opened and still got lots of things to improve. It is all right but lots of details that make your stay at a hostel pleasurable are missing: there is no kitchen, not even coffee or tea for guests there is no mosquito window. the amount of mosquito's in the room was not bareable. I woke up with 7 mosquito's hoovering above my bed. -no trash can in the bedroom, the shared living room is in the basement. The interior is very cold and not cosy at all. bathroom is in bedroom, so it makes a lot of noise you have to pay for leaving your luggage during the day when checked out in the morning downstairs there are trashcans in different colors but it is not clear how to sort -no ventilation in shower which gives quite a clastrophobic feeling. quite a lot of people in one room
Some good things: friendly staff -there are curtains, light, and an outlet to charge at every bed there is a nice bar downstairs depending on what you want, it is a good location. It is right next to the train station it is clean
I recommend the place if you are looking for a bed, yet when looking for a pleasant stay and social atmosphere, there are better...
Read moreClean & modern, with privacy curtains on the bunk beds and sockets and a lamp by the bed. WiFi was excellent.
Bathroom: for a bunk room of 8, there are 2 showers, 1 toilet, and 2 sinks. I never had to wait for anyone else. Again, clean and modern, although the shower temperature was a little variable. Soap provided, but no towel unless you pay.
2 lockers roll out from under each bunk bed, with plenty of space to fit a big rucksack in.
Location is good, a short walk from Atocha train station. Staff were friendly.
Breakfast is available at extra cost, but we didn't eat there, choosing to buy food from a shop and prepare sandwiches in the kitchenette.
There's a kitchenette downstairs but it only has a microwave and a sink, so you definitely won't be cooking anything! No fridge either.
There are laundry facilities, but they were temporarily out of order when we stayed. I'm sure you could find a nearby Laundrette if you were desperate though, so it's not the end...
