Our stay at Borda Aranzazu, in the heart of Aizkorri-Aratz natural park, was absolutely magical. We stayed in Borda Roja, which is the apartment at the end of the building, and it has an entire 2-story glass wall that looks out over a pasture and off to the mountains in the distance. The decor is modern and tasteful and the apartment is so nice you could just hang out and take in the view all day, but don't!, there is incredible hiking on a network of well-marked paths right outside the front door.||We did the 12km round trip to Urbia and back one morning ( there's a rustic mountain tavern at Urbia ), and a great 7km loop path ( the PR--Gi 3005 trail ) another. ||Definitely leave time for stopping in Onati on your way in or out of the park too. It has some lovely old streets and a nice little plaza where you can get a meal or a drink. It's also a good idea to do a bit of grocery shopping before you enter the park, because there isn't much beyond a couple restaurants near...
Read moreBeautiful, modern apartment with stunning views over the Arantzazu national parks. Excellent hiking trails within 5 minutes of the apartment and a 10 minute walk to the sanctuary. Good local restaurants nearby ( we enjoyed goiko benta). There is a huge terrace to appreciate the surroundings and the kitchen/ bathroom have everything you could need. We went to a supermarket in onati to pick up supplies and ate most meals at the apartment . The host was so helpful with info, hiking trails, showing us the pool in the hotel we could use etc.
The 2 small negatives are that you need to collect keys from sandika hotel down the road (an email to explain this would be helpful) it's on the way so as ling as you know to collect them its fine. Also you can hear the noise from the apartment next door if they talk a lot/ have...
Read moreA really lovely terrace that is excellent for a family to have a good time out in the natural park. Fire wood is chopped up and available for fire making to keep warm the conventional way, if not there are a multitude of heaters in the terrace. Even in the toilet, which is amazingly designed with a classy touch to the wood. The balcony is an amazing idea that opens up to the landscape of the natural park. Sun bathing chairs are available as well for a nice bask. Lastly, the staff there are extremely friendly. Even the bar members. Special mention to Julian for being an extremely friendly and welcoming host. His English is...
