We stayed 2 nights in August in one of their first floor rooms - the one on the corner overlooking the Basilica.||||Their original farm building has a modern (though it has been added very well architecturally) extension with about 10 bedrooms. The rooms are therefore modern(ish) ||||As others have said, it is a family operation with input from many generations. That gives a very agreeable atmosphere. It seems to be mainly in the charge of the ladies of the family, and they are very hospitable||||B&B was 35€ a head and was exceptional value for money||||The T de H evening meal was 22€ a head., was good, without being gourmet (they do not set out to be gourmet). The only criticism I have is that the plates were never warmed, never mind heated, and on one cold evening this made the food itself stone cold. There are three other places to eat in the evening, but my feeling is that none of them are better than this||||You would use the hotel as a base to visit the Basilica and Crypt, built on the site of the sighting of an apparition of the Virgin Mary over 500 years ago. The basilica must take over 1000 pilgrims, but can only fill once or twice a year.||||There is a (bad) Interpretation Centre for the adjoining Natural Park which I would not recommend. But the walks, of which 5 leave from the village, are fantastic and range from an hour to a day in length.||||This is a part of Spain seldom visited by foreign tourists, so you get to see the real Spain and the real Spanish here. If you have not been to the Basque Country before, then be aware that Basque, rather than Spanish is their first language, though they will be happy to talk to you in Spanish, and in many cases English||||I certainly recommend the hotel and its...
Read more😊: We loved this experience completely. The Inn itself is gorgeous, with remodeled modern guest rooms- extremely comfortable. The inn keepers go above and beyond to make us feel welcome, World class hospitality. Eskerrik Asko, Miren y Ana!
Meals are abundant and exceptional here, breakfasts offer everything you can imagine, local fresh delicious. We had two dinners here, one casual in the tavern and one more formal in the dining room - both were extraordinary in their own ways.
Hiking from the inn is a highlight, we did two long day hikes up to mountain peaks and highly recommend pastoral hike to local Refugio with incredible views and delicious food. The Inn’s pool is fantastic early evening.
Highest recommendation, and we hope we can return one day!. 😢: Recommend bringing layers. Our summer days were warm, but with cooler windy conditions up top hiking and afternoon thunderstorms. If you are not looking for a rural or hiking experience, recommend staying only one day for the Inn’s experience and meals, and Monastery...
Read moreThis was our favourite place to stay during our 15 day tour of the Basque Country. The family who run this Casa Rural are very welcoming, the building oozes character, the location in the mountains is spectacular, the food delicious and very good value. We stayed for two nights and enjoyed three course suppers both evenings - great value for 25 Euros per person. There was nothing not to like about this gem of a place. The woman owner speaks pretty good English too. Unfortunately, the weather was rather changeable when we were there so we never had the chance to use their outdoor pool. We can recommend the walk to Urbiako Fonda where you can stop for refreshments and lunch. The 2 hour walk takes you through beech forest before ascending to green pasture and the noise of bells clanging from the grazing...
