Eco? More like: Eeek! Oh no...
We stayed at ecorooms for one night on our camino trek. Of the 13 places we stayed, this place ranks dead last.
Communication was confusing, with two people sending conflicting instructions at the same time. Thinking they were messaging each other when they were messaging us. In some cases, communication was flat out wrong (insisting repeatedly that the tourist office was open Saturday when there was a sign on the door indicating it is closed Saturdays)
Upon arrival, there was no one to greet us, which was not a big problem. However, it was locked up tighter than a bank vault and more difficult to get in than solving a 5x5 Rubiks cube: where's the front door, how do we unlock the front door, how do we unlock the hostel door, how do we unlock the room. How do we unlock the bathroom door? When we entered, the hostel had a stale smell. Upon entering our bedroom, the musty/moldy smell hit us like a brick wall. After moving the bed, we discovered it was coming from under the floor, which had buckled by at least 3 inches. The baseboards were also covered in mold (see attached picture). We informed them that upon entering, there was no toilet paper at all in the hostel. We were told to use the paper hand towels even though there is a sign indicating not to flush hand towels into the toilet (you really want us to put $hitty towels in the garbage?) There was no offer to bring any and we didn't see the hosts at all during our stay. We ended up taking some TP from a restaurant.
The layout is brutal with the kitchen and kitchen table in opposite corners of the hostel. The kitchen did not have any pots/pans/cutlery, so cooking was not an option.
The free 'breakfast' consisted of 2 slices of white bread in plastic wrap with a pad of jam and butter, a tea bag, a chocolate powder mix, and 2 mini muffins like you would find in a cheap grocery store. I guess it at least contained calories.
Do yourself a favour - give this...
Read moreThis was such a bad experience. In all fairness we were walking the Camino de Santiago and were not checking our email. We didn't realize that we were to email for a phone code, once received it didn't work. We entered the building when a resident was leaving. . once in the building we found the door of the B and B.We knocked on the door and no answer. Rang the door bell repeatedly. Finally a guest answered the door. We emailed didn't hear back from the owners . But we found a key to a room. Two girls had looked at the room and left the key in the living room. So we used that room. At this point we are starving. The lock on the Band B was very complicated. I managed to open it . To open the lock box to reenter the BnB. I had the key but for the life of me could not open the door, My friend was on the other side of the door and could not open it from inside. I was stuck outside. Finally another guest assisted us. . So now to get dinner. My friend at this point had the phone code. I stayed inside the outside door and my friend phoned in the code. It would not unlock., I let her into the lobby. The solution was I would go for take out then we would leave together in the morning.. So I ran up the street to Flavia's and bought a delicious pizza and coffee con leche. Reentering the BnB was the same story , We could not open the lock. the same poor man had to let us in. Believe me it was...
Read moreThis was by far the worst and most frustrating booking experience we have ever had. Check-in was stated as 1pm, yet the host ignored every attempt we made to contact her. I sent a message through Booking.com the night before - no response. I tried her WhatsApp number - no response. When we arrived shortly after 1pm, we still had no instructions, updates, or communication. I called her four times, all ignored, and was eventually blocked.
To make matters worse, another couple in the building looked at our reservation and informed us that we were actually at the wrong address. We had unknowingly arrived at an apartment with an almost identical name. It seems the host may be exploiting this similarity, as the listed address could not be found on Google. When my friend tried calling the host directly, she hung up immediately both times.
This behaviour goes beyond unprofessional - it was dishonest, hostile, and completely unacceptable. We were left stranded, stressed, and ignored by someone who clearly cannot be trusted. For your own peace of mind, safety, and sanity, do not book...
