This has quite possibly been the WORST hotel experience I have ever had in my many, many years of traveling abroad. My three friends and I had two double rooms reserved for over a month before our arrival to Ibiza, but one friend unfortunately had an accident a couple weeks before the departure and was unable to attend the trip. We called the third-party booking site to modify our booking as we only needed one room. The booking site then reached out to the hotel but got NO response. As I understand communications between third parties can be difficult, I then personally reached out to the hotel via email and also never received a response. We then tried to modify our room reservation at check in and the hotel staff was completely dismissive and unhelpful, which was generally our experience during the entire stay. We were told that the hotel regularly gets requests from the booking site we used, but there was no record of our request even though I had a confirmation number for the cancellation request. The staff was condescending and also gossiped to members of our party about others within our party, which was in my opinion untactful and unprofessional. We were constantly harassed and treated differently than other guests who were of a different nationality or race. We received a noise complaint for playing music early in the evening when our neighbors blasted music with no consequence throughout the entire day and evening (as did the hotel itself well into the evening). We were unable to request extra towels and were told only two towels were issued per room, which I've never experienced in any country that I've visited or in any hotel where I’ve been a guest. We were required to submit a cash deposit for the use of beach towels which we could only switch out on Sundays and Wednesdays no matter how soiled they were. This policy although a little odd would have been fine but we were never informed of the policy (or any other policy or expectations) at check-in. As a member of the legal profession (I am licensed attorney/lawyer in the U.S.), I felt disgusted by the handling of the above-mentioned noise complaint as staff threatened to call the police when they delivered the warning of the noise complaint at our door. We had received no prior warnings or other complaints so to threaten to involve the authorities felt targeted and threatening. I would not recommend this hotel to any one and especially not to brown people and definitely not black Americans. We were not welcomed and it was obvious from interactions with hotel staff and other guests. Visiting Ibiza has been a bucket list item and I am sad to say our stay completely ruined the trip and cast such a negative light on the culture and the island in general. I do not plan on returning. Again, I stress to black Americans, save your money and stay elsewhere. You will not be treated fairly and your money will not be valued. Hotel staff voiced their concern that we would leave a negative review after check in, which was mentioned to one member of our party on the second day of our stay. We never mentioned leaving any sort of review so that in itself supports how we were viewed and treated as “guests”. As a result, we were so nervous to give our honest opinions for fear of retaliation that we took photos of the rooms at check-out to avoid any dispute about our deposit for incidentals. It has been nearly a week since we’ve checked out so I finally feel safe enough to post our HONEST review. Hope this is helpful. Aside from the poor interactions with staff, the facilities were dated and didn’t look much like the photos posted online. The a/c barely worked, and we took cold showers most days to avoid adding any extra heat...
Read moreThe location of the Alua Hawaii is perfect and is literally a stones throw from the beach, the sea views are as promised and the majority overlook both the picturesque bay and the promenade, which is the main walking route into the centre of San Antonio.
It’s close enough to the town centre to walk to but far enough away so you can’t hear the nightlife which gets livelier the closer to town you get. The rooms are a little on the small side but more than adequate for a few days, reception staff were friendly & helpful, the meals were delicious and had plenty of vegetarian options as well as a massively varied choice catering to practically everyone’s palette.
There’s a couple of reasons it’s not 5 stars, the first being the lifts which were intermittent, shaky and temperamental, once remaining stationary with doors closed for over a minute before delivering us to the eighth floor -instead of the second- which is actually listed as private floor.
Secondly, whilst the maids were pleasant & accommodating, we had difficulty getting them to service the room despite vacating it practically all day for a couple of days in a row, however once this was brought to their attention it was quickly remedied but minus new toilet rolls & towels which were eventually replaced after again having to bring it to the attention of the staff.
Overall though these are minor qualms and didn’t detract from our holiday or the rest of the hotel which was sparkling clean and well maintained both inside & out. There are some restrictions in a couple of areas where children aren’t allowed but we knew that when we booked the room.
The entertainment was the usual fare but doesn’t usually start until 10pm and is all finished for 11pm, the pool area is great, as is the pool, but access is somewhat limited as it’s only accessible between 10am & 7pm.
The Sunset Bar affords wonderful views of the days end, well, unless you are accompanied by a 15-year-old (or younger child) in which case you may be asked to vacate the -otherwise empty- bar due to the ‘no children’ rule which is what happened to us…
Our visit happened to coincide (24th August) with the day of Sant Bartomeu (Saint Bartholomew), who is the patron saint of San Antonio and the celebrations culminates with a spectacular firework display which is actually orchestrated from the hotel car Park. If you have a chance to see the display then I highly recommend it as it is quite a spectacle and very memorable.
All in all, we had an enjoyable stay at the hotel and I would definitely...
Read moreWe absolutely loved this hotel! The decor all over the hotel, from the lobby to the pool to the rooms, is so beautiful and so well thought out - waking up in pink paradise everyday we did not want to leave! Our favourite design features were the comfy couches in the lobby and bar including the swing couch, the cocoon chair on our balcony, the coffee machine in our room, the various comfy sunbeds by the pool and not forgetting the giant cat sculpture outside! There is also a TV in the room which has Netflix and YouTube - we didn’t use this much but we thought it was great to have this available. This hotel has everything you could possibly need and every question we had was always answered by the wonderful hotel staff. There were lots of members of staff in all the different areas always available to help. The cleaners were so kind and checked everyday if we wanted our room cleaning. The pool area has a DJ everyday for a few hours who was great and it really puts everyone in a good mood!
The food in the food truck and on room service was quick and filling but the menu is not the biggest - this didn’t matter to us much as we only ate from this menu occasionally and mostly ate at restaurants outside of the hotel. We had breakfast at the hotel included and it is available until 10:45am which is great especially if you have been to any events the night before! There were lots of options for breakfast both savoury and sweet, and there was a huge selection of drinks available. I mostly loved the omelette bar where you could choose your own fillings and watch the chef make the omelette in front of you - so fresh! The views of the beach from the outside seating area for breakfast were so beautiful, and it is lovely to have the beach on your doorstep at this hotel with a little gate leading to the path to the beach too.
Our check out time was 10:30am which wasn’t bad and the staff were gracious enough to allow us to check out at 11am as we had been out the night before. We were disappointed that we could not keep our room for longer as the hotel was fully booked but the shower rooms and complimentary towels were nice and clean.
There were so many little activities available too with shuffleboard and fuseball in the lobby, snooker/ pool in the bar and ping pong by the pool. This was such a nice touch and kept us entertained when we fancied a break from sunbathing.
Overall, if you are thinking about booking this hotel I would definitely recommend!! We were all...
