A jewel in beautiful Galle, Colonial villa in the heart of a local neighbourhood. We stayed here during what was probably the worst time in modern Sri Lankan history (June/July 2022), despite these hard times for the country we where treated like kings, never missed anything and always felt safe. The Villa is clean and have all amenities, though it is not a 5 star resort, it is manned 24/7 and assistance is always available. The support and kindness from both staff and management is proof of Sri Lankan hospitality and stands above anything else. We highly recommend this for anyone, and will be back our selves. Considering the hard times, especially the limited recourses like gasoline, we opted to stay in the Villa and venture out by foot and bicycle as opposed to tours by car, this turned out to be a fantastic way of getting to know the neighbourhood and even more the friendly Sri Lankan culture. Galle fort is approximately 20 minutes walk, by bicycle all Galle is close, in mid-day it is hot to go about and the pool is a life safer. We where lucky to enjoy traditional local dishes prepared for us at the Villa, this was a dream home away from home, highly recommended. Note: My country warned against traveling to Sri Lanka during our stay, but it is important to understand that the issue was merely about getting gasoline to drive about, it was never about danger to anyone, I had daily interactions (friendly talks) with military, police, protesters and other people trying to make ends meet, and they where exclusively friendly and sought only to assist me. I can strongly recommend visiting Sri Lanka even during this very important time for the country and in particular...
Read moreI loved the boutique hotel and the decor. You smell cinnamon as soon as you enter the front door. I had the place to myself for the night. |The room was large with vaulted ceilings. The only downside was the TV. It took a little while to get properly working thanks to the staff. I want able to get BBC news tho. Had to watch a really bad film bc it was the only English Channel. |The hotel is just outside the fort. Not a long distance but there isn’t anything to do around it. There is a in unique shaped pool out back and a small seating area. There is also a large common area to sit and watch TV if you choose. |Oh and the train! If your a light sleeper this may be an inconvenience because the train runs very close to this hotel and blows the horn. ||My only upset with this hotel is that I travel with|a Tempurpedic pillow. I’ve had back surgery and this really helps me sleep. I slept on it the only night I stayed there!|The next day, my driver and I drove to Bentota. Only there did I realize it was missing. Called the hotel and they searched but couldn’t find it. I’ve misplaced other items at hotels along my 3 week journey and was able to retrieve them easily enough. In no way am I accusing anyone of stealing it. I just feel like it might have been misplaced or overlooked somehow. I even drove back to search for myself! I was able to see the bedroom I stayed in, the kitchen and the plastic storage container that housed sheets. I wasn’t able to inspect the entire place. It’s just a mystery and I’m super sad it...
Read moreThe place is beautiful but the caretaker is useless and has a bad attitude. On arrival we rang the bell and no one answered so we let our selves in and were calling out for someone until he turned up from the back. Didn’t offer to take our bags or make sure we were comfortable and proceeded to watch tv in the living room and then went to sleep. In the evening when we came back after dinner he was entertaining some random person in the living room also watching tv. This felt so dodgy it wasn’t funny. Some friends joined us for drinks in our room and at 9:45pm he proceeded to tell us that they must leave by 10:30 and that even if we go out we must come by 11:00 which is ridiculous. He can’t be dictating terms to us when we are paying good money. After my friend spoke to him sternly he said ok they can stay but we must lock the door so we said fine. In the morning I asked for a cup of coffee, he gave it without milk. When we asked for milk he said well you only asked for coffee, which is ridiculous. Also i don’t know when the last time he cleaned the pool was. Definitely not coming back for...
