I have just been to Sri Lanka on a Solo International Trip and I was on my way to Galle immediately after landing in Colombo. I had booked this hotel from this very site, after reading the reviews and looking at the pictures. ||||When I arrived at this place, it looked like a home-stay from the outside. On arriving inside the premises, I was greeted by one very fine gentleman (Manager) who manages the whole property. I was the only one on that day in this Villa. One German couple had just checked out, before my arrival. So, almost within no time, I was handed over my room - which was on the first floor - a very basic non-AC room. ||||The room had a nice double bed, with clean pillows, mattresses and clean towels. It didn't have a cupboard but one iron stand for drying clothes - as can be seen from the pictures. It was airy but since these days were prior to the monsoons, the hot & humid climate actually forced me to keep the window closed. Once you settle down after your bath etc, you shall be okay. The bathroom and the toilet (combined into one) were very clean. Great WIFI speed. ||||I stayed here only one day, as I thought one day in Galle would be quite okay and it was. Really ! ||||The Manager was very helpful and willing to offer me some tea and refreshments post my checking in. This was personally prepared by him and I say the tea he prepared was awesome. So, I had 3 cups of tea - right one after the another, inspite the hot & humid weather. ||||He also offered me dinner for INR 150, consisting of rice, chicken, bread and some well-prepared vegetables. The next day, I was again served breakfast, on time. ||||The room charges were INR 1,200/- per day + the extra cups of tea @ INR 35/- and dinner for INR 150/-||||Overall, very happy with my stay and the great...
Read moreI recently visited Galle with my friends and stayed at Kalan Villa. We booked two rooms, and both were exceptionally clean and quiet. Each bed had its own plug point, which made it convenient for charging our phones, and the room had a large mirror, which was a nice touch. The owner is incredibly friendly and offered helpful tips on exploring Galle. He even provided us with morning tea, which was a lovely way to start the day.
Safety was not a concern, as the owner's home is on the ground floor, and he also provided us with unlimited drinking water (both cool and normal). The villa itself has three floors, including a rooftop that’s perfect for small parties or just relaxing and singing some songs. However, be mindful that the villa closes at 10 PM, so make sure to return before then. Overall, it was a pleasant stay, and I highly recommend Kalan Villa if you're...
Read moreOne of the cheapest in the whole area (budget room upstairs is LKR 1000 except high season) but generally not cheapish. Room has good beds, wifi, table. Electric mozzie coil and near perfect netting at the windows hence mozziefree without a net around the bed (as long as guests don't keep the doors open...). Fan, the lux room at the back might also offer AC. The kitchen/bathroom zone at the entrance feels more cheapish, with a shower (cold water except middday) and wc which aren't maintained that well and a kitchen sink as washbasin. Breakfast is overpriced for tea-coffee-bread-egg-margarin-fruit but Kalan promised to consider adding jams etc. to make it more worth its Rs 400. Jungle beach is at 2 km distance, bus...
