While visiting Lucerne we stayed for one night at the "Ibis Budget Hotel" and we found it to be a good option for a cheap stay in Lucerne!
Arrival: We arrrived in the middle of the day at around 1:00pm. I think we were a little early for heck-in however, our room was ready and the staff checked us in. It was nice to able to leave our bags in our room so early and go out and explore Lucerne!
The Staff: We met Rute at the check-in desk and she was very polite and helpful! All the staff were very friendly!
The Room: The room was very clean and comfortable. Bit of an odd design as there was a single bunk bed above our double bed. The double bed had a normal double bed douvet cover and the bed was very comfortable. There was all the usual light controls that you would expect beside the bed as well! There was a number of sockets around the room however, the Swiss use a different type of socket to the rest of Europe so make sure your adaptor fits, if not you can rent an adaptor from the check-in desk. The room was en suite however, the layout of the bathroom was different to what I have seen before with the shower seperate to the sink seperate to the toilet. They were all kind of part of the room with the toilet and shower having doors. The shower had good pressure but the space was a little small. Since it is a budget hotel you would need to bring your own toiletries for use in the shower.
Amenities: The hostel has wifi in all the rooms, there is an elevator to the different floors. There is a breakfast offered for the morning however, it is not included in the cost of your stay! One quirky thing that I liked was the wooden key card! Never seen that before!
Location: The hotel is located just a short walk from the main tourist areas in Lucerne. You can easily get to where the bars and restaurants are located as well as the historical buildings.
Wheelchair Accessibility: There is a large ramp entering the main lobby area and with elevator you can get anywhere in the hotel with a wheelchair. I would imagine though you may need to book a specific room as the room we stayed in would not be suited for a person you needs room for a wheelchair. Nor was the toilet or shower in our room suited to a person with these requirements.
Overall Opinion: While the Ibis is a budget hotel it was still a very pleasant place to stay! I would definitely stay again as it was nice to walk through the streets around Lucerne and not always be situated smack dab in the middle. I recommend choosing the Ibis Budget Hotel for your stay in Lucerne if you are olay...
Read moreWe stayed here end of May 2025. Pros: fairly close to the main Lucerne Railway station (~800m walk)
Cons: Extremely tiny rooms. There are no cupboards. Thr bathroom and toilet are cramped even for 1 person if he/she is a bit plump/healthy
No basic amenities in the room like telephone or fridge or safe. Forget about other things like kettle, tea/coffee, Iron etc.
We were here at end of May when the weather outside was fairly cool but it would get really stuffy in the rooms. We tried the AC but it just wouldn't cool. Since there was no phone we couldn't complain to the reception and were just too tired to walk all the way down. Next day when we complained about the AC, the official response of the reception was that since its not yet summer and its still 15 degrees outside, the AC has been set to only "blowing air" and not cooling! So the official suggestion was to open the window! Further we were lucky(?) that they also provided a table fan to us. This is one of the weirdest policy w3 have seen because opening the window doesn't really solve the issue due to lack of ventilation and since the window has no grills or netting we cannot keep it open overnight fearing unlawful entry of even entry of insects etc. Plus all the noise made sleeping impossible. Also pls note although they couldn't make the AC cool the room, the room was high tech enough to automatically switch off the AC the moment the window was open. This inspite of the fact that my booking clearly shows the room as "Air conditioned". This is borderline scam.
The breakfast is basic, not much to appreciate or complain per se.
The bathroom had a wierd door which did not offer proper privacy, not to mention lack of locks for any doors
The towels were rough and not the regular standard ones.
Accessing the power sockets next to the beds is a pain as they are locate below the side shelf in an extremely cramped location
There are extra charges for everything egs: an early check in, or storing bags till the time check in is done.
And all of the above service was given to us, inspite of us being Accor Silver Members.
Considering all the above downsides, its not priced fairly and is slightly on the expensive...
Read moreGreat hotel for the price. It's about a kilometer from the railway station. The room was small and basic, with a comfortable large bed. But we barely had enough space to open two suitcases together. The room was well lit, and had a small table and stool. There were a few hangers which were attached to the wall and not easy to use. There were two large towels and a small one. We had to pay a deposit of CHF 20 to borrow the hair dryer.
The room had a small toilet and a small bathroom, both of which had no locks - they were not broken, just not present. The bathroom had horizontal lines of fully transparent glass. I would not recommend anyone other than partners to stay here solely because of this, as it could lead to embarrassment and discomfort.
The bathroom had a little amount of liquid soap and the basin (which was in the room with a mirror) had a bar of soap. Toilet paper and two dustbins were present too.
The hotel provides a free bus pass allowing you to take rides in the whole city. It's basically useless as the bus system is free anyway, but the attention brought to this fact is appreciated. The free WiFi is satisfactory.
The breakfast is good, with all basic items and costs CHF 12. The hotel doesn't offer other meals, but instead provides you with paid packaged items such as ready to eat noodles, pasta, pizza, drinks and chocolates.
We reached the hotel at 11.15am for a check-in time of 12 noon. The receptionist offered us early check-in for CHF 10. We chose to wait instead as we found it unfair to pay for just 45 minutes. But she was very helpful and gave us tips on how to plan for a trip to Mount Titlis. Overall, all the staff members were very nice and polite and I had a good...
