What a gem! I am so very happy to have stayed in a hotel nearby and was able to visit this museum, I loved every inch of it!
I try to visit museums in places that I travel to, whenever possible, and in reading about this museum, I learned that they have many pieces by Picasso, which I was very interested in seeing, in addition to other artists. There are also many candid photographs of Picasso, which were very interesting to see, in addition to a historic meeting room with movie you can watch to learn about this history behind the museum.
I explored from top floor (3), to basement, taking in each artist's work. I spent about 3+ hours there. There is an elevator if needed. I spent about $30 CAD for the entrance fee.
Lucia at the entrance desk was wonderful to chat with, she was extremely helpful and assisted me with some purchases of prints and a tube to keep them safe in. Thank you for making my visit even more enjoyable!
I highly recommend the visit, and it's in a great neighborhood to shop...
Read moreHit the museum within 20 minutes of it opening on a Sunday morning. The ticket admission clerk offered me an English guide (multi-page single-spaced analysis and overview of the works in the museum). I usually shun the tape recorded audio track or leaflets but I leaned into doing things differently and thoroughly enjoyed walking about each room and learning more about Picasso, the artist and Klee for the basement works. I’ve been to other Picasso-featuring museums in France but the summary connected the dots for me. The works are so well-organized. If you like Klee, head to the basement first because it’s critical to get up close to see the detail of his work up close. I was the only person in the basement and found myself chuckling and smiling to myself appreciating the humor and aesthetic of his work. The photos of Picasso and Jacqueline and the museum founder on the top floor was also a nice touch to see him as the artist in situ at his...
Read moreBeautiful private collection of Picasso artwork, impressionist and a Swiss artist (Bree). Perfect size to soak in the beauty and understand the progression. Easy to navigate and only takes a couple hours to get through all exhibits at a leisurely pace.
One thing I did not care for is the use of cell phone and QR code to pull up PDF of text of artists and work. I did not want to read on my phone and walk and stop and read, etc. This needs an audio tour with the art to appreciate it fully. The video at the end was wonderful and would have been nice to see at the start, but I stumbled into the conference room and happen to see it playing while I was resting.
Also, this is not a place if you have bad knees. All furniture is ultra low profile, being about 10 inches off the floor. Impossible to sit or get up. I rested on a cut out in the wall before finding a decent chair on...
