The Sherlock Holmes Hotel in Meiringen presents itself as an establishment of curious contradictions. The furniture, though functional, lacks the elegance and quality one might expect from an abode bearing the illustrious name of the great detective. Indeed, it is as though the furnishings were assembled with the haste and indifference of a criminal fleeing the scene of a crime, rather than with the precision and care of a master artisan.
The room, while clean, is certainly not spotless. The efforts of the housekeeping staff are evident but fall short of the meticulous standards one might anticipate. The breakfast service, confined to the narrow window of 07:00 to 09:00, forces one to rise at an ungodly hour should they wish to avoid the chaos of the first hour's rush. Such an arrangement is hardly conducive to a restful stay. The morning breakfast itself is just adequate, doing little to elevate the overall experience.
The reception staff, though able to communicate in English, just about manage to do so with the proficiency required. The absence of German language skills is conspicuous and adds to the general sense of inadequacy that pervades the hotel. The library, intriguingly, lacks any Sherlock Holmes books, which is a glaring oversight given the hotel's theme. Additionally, the music played throughout the hotel fails to align with the Sherlock Holmes theme, detracting from the intended atmosphere.
Room key security is alarmingly lax, with keys dropped into a box on the front desk and no checks on which one is taken. This oversight is a significant security risk and adds to the general feeling of disarray.
In conclusion, the Sherlock Holmes Hotel, while clean, falls short of the expectations one might have for a venue named after such a venerable figure. Its dated appearance, lack of quality furnishings, inadequate language skills, and various other shortcomings earn it a mere four out of ten in this...
Read moreMy wife and I visited this hotel in August 2025. We were on a 20 day European trip out of which 10 were in switzerland. We stayed at various hotels during our visit but the Das Hotel Sherlock Holmes was the only one we would definitely visit again. After having spent so many days away from home, we had started missing Indian food and the staff at this hotel caters extremely well to that. Unlike Indian hotels where service is paramount, European hotels are very different. However the service at Das Hotel reminded me of service back in India. The owner Mr.Tushar stays at the hotel and is always available to assist. We built a very strong bond with him and the staff. The chef who is from Hyderabad was also very accomodating and ensured we ate well. By the end of the stay we were reluctant to leave as it had become a second home. Wife and I have decided that this is where we will be staying the next time even if we have to travel to get to places we want to see. Was well worth it and the location was just perfect with views of the waterfall from our room. It is like a home away from home. Thank you so much to Tushar bhai and team for making our...
Read moreWe stayed here with two kids and 3 nights in May. While this is of course not a 5 star hotel, the rooms were spacious (we had a family room with a separate bed room, a living room [with a couch that sleeps 2 and is comparably comfortable for a sleeping couch], bathroom and balcony) and clean and the pool was a nice spot to have a little paddle after a day out in the mountains and fresh air (though the water in the pool is on the cold side). Breakfast was basic, but offered muesli, cold cuts, cheese, bread rolls, croissants etc. Coffee did unfortunately come from a ready made machine and was of low quality. We had booked half board and the dinners we had were of good quality and well worth the add on. prices at the bar are reasonable for Switzerland. The hotel offers a huge playroom for kids (old and young), so that is definitely a plus when travelling with the family.||Parking at the hotel is CHF5/ night which I think is reasonable, though of course free parking would be more appropriate.||The hotel is well located for various attractions in the region.||I would stay again for a...
