The Poho is not a terrible hotel. It definitely is not a luxurious hotel. By today’s standards it’s is a budget hotel in a former-luxury hotel building. The problem is that it has pitched it’s prices up with hotels that are luxurious and definitely aren’t terrible.
The decore is truly a sight to see. Clearly it previously aspired to attract wannabe rockers, financiers and anyone looking for a nightclub scene in this quaint, quiet holiday town on the edge of beautiful lake lucerne. Its aubergine and lime colour scheme combined with the eye-aching wonders of the leopard print carpet and snake skin wallpapers in dark corridors almost look contemporary. The entrance hallway with its ridiculously oversized staircase surrounded by mirrors and water feature tell of an era when the likes of 70s film and music stars may have walked these halls.
The 25 meter purple checkin desk looks like it was stolen from a budget airline. The lifts are lined with lined green carpet seemingly emulating a dimented tennis court. I could go on.
Rooms are very dated as most other reviewers have mentioned. Enter and the bright red details and retro 50s furniture hit you. More would be noticeable were it not for the lack of ceiling light fittings. Then the weirdest design of all time hits you: the bathroom is separated from the room by a glass screen and sliding glass door with external, semi-sheer curtain for ‘privacy’. Most rooms have new bathroom sanitary ware which begs the question why the upgrading did not include replacing this voyeur’s dream with a good old fashioned door?
The gym is open but much of the equipment is broken. The spa is open for just 4 hours per day. There hotel provides no soap, no shampoo, no mini bar contents, no room service, no air-conditioning nor hangers. The spa showers are broken, the retiled floors more slippery than an ice rink, the steam room broken and solarium closed.
Essentially, there is not a single part of the hotel’s offering that is without something broken, missing, closed or unavailable.
The up sides...
Location – immediately opposite the ferry wharf. Convenient and simple. Everything in Weggis is in reasonable walking distance.
Views – if your room has one (and most do), the views across the lake are marvellous ... As good as the very best.
Staff – always polite, always friendly.
Breakfast – simple but generous.
Overall...priced at budget prices this hotel is well placed and acceptable. At current prices...it is possible to do much...

The reception is on the 2nd floor, and the entrance elevator was broken. The reception lady tried to make a false statement that someone just pushed the elevator button and broke it, but I can see from past comments that it was broken for a long time. The lobby area was quite poorly managed; I can confidently make this statement that it had the lowest quality for a 4- or 3-star hotel that I have ever seen. There was a water cooler that ran out of water on the second day of our stay, and every now and then the reception lady made a statement that they should be refilled soon. The furniture was quite old and worn out. There were quite strange and insulting rules that annoyed us for all three days of our stay. Let me give you some examples: to escape the dirty smelly rooms, we had to stay in the lobby until bedtime and play with our friends. Every night at 11 pm, the reception lady came and asked us to leave the lobby because of the Hotel Rules!!!! She explained that she is the last hotel staff leaving and "she should kick everyone out of the lobby before she leaves"!!? What a terrible management! Also, there was no bar or restaurant or anything food-related open (I think the hotel restaurant was only open for breakfast). Our rooms were disgusting and sometimes we ordered food and we wanted to eat in them in the lobby. Again, the Hotel rules said that we shouldn't eat in the lobby and the reception guided us to the dirty disco room to eat. The rooms were disgusting. There was no ventilation in the bathroom so after someone use it, the room was full of smell and humidity. The TV wasn't working, everywhere you could find spider webs and dust. Overnight, there were noises of water flow coming out of the walls. There was the smell of carpet in the hallway. Shortage of staff: most of the time, especially in the afternoon, there was only one staff to service all guests. Sometimes, we had to wait half an hour to find someone to ask for...
Read moreTerrible * 3! should have read some google reviews before booking this hotel. This is the worst hotel i ever stayed in my entire life. Not exaggerating a tiny bit. for the record i travel a lot for leisure and work (usually 50-60nights per year). we booked the comfort room with lake view. First of all, the elevator was broken; looks like it was broken a while ago by reading all the reviews. guess they wanted us to do some cardio with heavy lifting the luggages. I’m actually not angry about this with all Gelatos i ate during my trip. During checking in, we were asked to pay everything upfront. it is little bit weird but okay. usually, in other hotels, hotel put an authorization on the credit card, and bill the final charges at end. guess this hotel is different. After we check in, we found out the room has no A.C in 30 degrees summer. And apparently no A.C stands for “comfort” so that you can enjoy the sweat in this weather. We called the front desk, front desk told us we have to pay to upgrade the room to third floor to have A.C. After the cardio with the broken elevator, i guess i have suck it up and decided to pay. HOWEVER, when i ask can i get room key for the A.C room first so that i can transfer my luggage, the supervisor said no, i have to come downstairs to pay first. i was like “????? it is only 20 CHF, i’ve paid ~300 per night, can i just transfer my luggage first”. She demanded that is the rule and refused my request, Imagine with all the luggages. Super unhappy, and decided to shorten our stay at this hotel given the fact i booked the flexible fees. the supervisor Jennifer us literally told us “sure, but no refund” LOLed, i asked the reason , again the rule. Super shady practices. please avoid at...
