This is a restaurant with truly serious food. Rather unexpected given it's location in the heart of Swiss tourism. My partner and I checked into the Garni Hotel Frohburg about 7pm, and looked down from our balcony to see this beautifully located restaurant below us, and right on the lakeside. Without checking it out, we decided we would give it a try, so I called down, asked for a table, and went straight down for a drink and then dinner. And were we glad that we did! Our experience was so good that we decided at the end of the evening to return the next night and booked a table on the spot (very unusual for me to want to eat at the same restaurant two days in a row).
On both evenings, our waitress, Sabrina, took care of us perfectly. Exactly the right balance of professionalism and friendliness. Both evenings, the weather was beyond perfect as we watched the sun sink below the mountains on the western shores of Lake Lucerne. The wine list was excellent, and I actually got to drink some good Swiss wine -- not an everyday accomplishment I find! -- and Sabrina was helpful with suggestions. And the food was sublime. Amongst the dishes we sampled -- all really excellent -- were steak tartar (great country fries), smoked local lake fish, lamb, pike-perch on leek. And the desserts! The mousse au chocolat and the swan-meringue were heavenly, as was the selection we had on the second night. Hard to fault the food in any way, from freshness, to recipe, to presentation on the plate. And the extra touches such as the delectable bread served on the side, and the chef's amuse-bouches, just rounded off the whole experience.
If you are a foodie, try this place. No, it won't be cheap, but I guarantee you'll enjoy every...
Read moreIt is slightly better than mediocre cooking , our favorite restaurant Riva was closed today, we were told to give Zee a try. The soup was saltier than it should be , even the sampler soup for breads was salty. Salad with the restaurant dressing was a little too sweet, though salad itself was fresh and well tossed. They made a small mistake on the main course but a swift correction turned it around , which was nice. Then the final step became a bit irritating, this was our last stop for a pleasant two week European vacation, we were in London, Paris, Strasbourg, Munich etc. in each city we read the tipping rules, and in some city even the hotel concierge told us tipping was not required we still left five to ten euro. Tonight as we were paying the bill with a credit card, our waiter started his attempts in soliciting a tip by repeatedly nudging us, once, twice he sounded us out, the very last time he was kinda rude and said to our face, “you know the tip is not included in the bill you paid with credit card!”we were quite annoyed by his unrelenting and unwarranted pestering, firstly he didn’t know if we were going to leave some cash or now, secondly all the information on Google says it is strictly up to you if you want to leave a tip or not, and waiters make a decent salary here in Switzerland, as a result of his bickering, even though we still left 10 Swiss franc on the table, but we strongly felt he singled us out because we were not from here. I want Zee to know this was quite annoying, let alone rude and inappropriate , which gives us a lasting memory and zero desire to return. Weggis is a city we relish very much, this would be our second stay...
Read moreThe food was okay. Our server was nice and friendly but my wife’s desert never came and we eventually just paid and left without it. The biggest issue is it’s part of a hotel and right next to our table was a room with a baby that screamed nonstop. The guests left the windows all open so that was all we heard the entire meal. The server talked to the manager about it but apparently the manager didn’t want to bother the guest. I thought they’d at least try to make it up with a free drink or desert but all we got was an expensive check and a headache. There are much better...
