As a Lifetime Titanium member, I’ve stayed at many Marriott properties worldwide. My recent stay at Aloft Beitou had several highlights, along with a few areas that could be improved.
✅ Highlights:
Elite Recognition & Upgrade Upon check-in, I was upgraded to a suite in recognition of my Titanium status. This was much appreciated and made for a comfortable stay. I always reach out in advance when I’m staying on vacation and let the hotel know about my status and my request. I also let them know that I always write reviews. I have found this has been very helpful in getting me upgraded on vacation. I never ask for upgrades on business. But I have 100% track record of getting upgraded on vacation by simply reaching out in advance and letting them know that I would appreciate an upgrade.
Excellent Value on Points At just 12,500 points per night, this hotel offers exceptional value. It’s one of the most affordable redemptions I’ve come across globally since COVID. And remember if you’re getting four nights on points redemption, the fifth night is free. This makes for an excellent value at this property.
Strategic Location After spending time in central Taipei, I chose Beitou to explore the nearby hot springs like Thermal Valley (“Hell Valley”). The hotel is a quick 5–7 minute walk from the MRT (their metro system), which is efficient and easy to use—even for non-Mandarin speakers. Make sure you download the app for the MRT. It’s super helpful. There are plenty of local dining options within a 5-minute walk (though you may need a translation app), and a large supermarket about 10 minutes away. Note: the supermarket does not accept foreign credit cards, so bring cash. If I had known how accessible the MRT system was, I might have skipped downtown and stayed here my entire trip. We took the MRT to the zoo which is on the far other side of Taipei and it took 40 minutes. Super efficient.
Quality Breakfast The breakfast buffet offered a great variety and very good quality—well above expectations for the brand tier. I will Post pics.
Comfortable Room The suite was spacious, with a soft bed, strong WiFi, and modern amenities. My only complaint was the air conditioning—it couldn’t cool the room below 22°C (72°F), which might be uncomfortable for those who prefer cooler sleep temperatures.

⚠️ Opportunities for Improvement:
Bar Pricing Policy I was charged TWD 180 (~USD 6) for a can of Taiwanese beer at the bar—almost double the price of the exact same beer sold at the hotel’s own market by the check-in desk (TWD 100), and six times the price at the supermarket nearby (TWD 30). This pricing feels inconsistent and discourages guests from using the bar. Consider aligning pricing more reasonably. To save money, buy beer at the supermarket and use the mini fridge. Yes thank you.
Late-Night Call from Management The most disappointing moment was receiving a call from the manager on duty at 12:45 AM in response to feedback I had submitted via the Marriott app. I had used the messaging function specifically to avoid disturbing staff or expecting a reply overnight. A phone call at that hour was unnecessary and disruptive. Hopefully, this becomes a coaching moment for the team.

🏁 Final Thoughts:
Overall, I would still recommend Aloft Beitou for its excellent point value, proximity to the MRT, access to Beitou’s hot spring attractions, and overall comfort. With a few minor service adjustments, this property could stand out even more within the...

Read moreDear Aloft by W of America, take notice and learn from Aloft Taiwan! The Aloft Taipei Beitou exemplifies the style and substance of W Hotels, unlike the stripped-down self-serviced versions seen in America. Pet-friendly facility!
Updated 12/28/2024: While Aloft is conveniently accessible via the MRT line, making it a standout choice compared to the more remote locations of Four Points Bali and Linkou's Airport line, the breakfast experience at Four Points Bali is unparalleled. The dining environment there is semi-intimate, offering a pleasant atmosphere.
Both Four Points facilities offer shower and tub options, with Four Points Bali also featuring an onsen tub for a more luxurious experience. Meanwhile, Aloft Beitou primarily offers shower stalls.
In contrast, the Nook dining facility at Aloft feels chaotic, with a disruptive flow of guests, and the seating area resembles a cafeteria at a soup kitchen—a stark disappointment compared to the rest of the hotel. Additionally, the dining staff at Aloft were notably slower in changing plates.
Moreover, the walls and ceilings at Aloft are quite thin, resulting in noticeable noise from adjacent rooms and hallways. Guests can often hear loud TV sounds and conversations from neighboring rooms, which can be quite disruptive.
Updated 08/25/2025 Having returned after a six-month hiatus, my recent stay at Aloft Taipei left me with mixed impressions. While the property still offers a convenient location and a modern aesthetic, it's becoming increasingly clear that operational frugality is starting to show through.
As of 2025, Taiwan’s tourism board has implemented a green initiative that discourages the use of disposable amenities. While I appreciate the environmental intent, the execution feels half-hearted—basic items are withheld unless specifically requested, and even then, they come at an added cost. It’s a subtle shift that unfortunately feels more cost-cutting than eco-conscious.
Despite receiving an upgrade, the room remains compact. However, as a Lifetime Titanium Elite member, it’s disappointing that I’ve never been offered the best available room, such as a suite, despite numerous stays. This lack of recognition stands out, especially when compared to elite treatment in other regions.
The guest profile has shifted noticeably. The hotel now seems to cater predominantly to elderly travelers and families with young children. The dining hall and lobby often feel chaotic, with kids zig-zagging through the space and seniors congregating in common areas. It’s a livelier—but less serene—environment than in past visits.
Taiwan’s hotel market has long struggled to deliver strong value relative to other Asian destinations, and sadly, this remains unchanged in 2025. The Aloft brand, typically known for its vibrant and youthful energy, feels muted here—more functional...
