I checked the past reviews of this hotel and thinking that is a decent place to put up for my family trip in Taipei. I booked for 5 nights and It is really a Big mistake. |1. Location is near MRT. Nearby is a food street and local market place. Surrounding is old and dirty.|2. A gas cylinder shop on the 1st floor is right below the hotel room. Very unsafe.|3. There are many couples checking in for 2 hours room rate. Too many indecent activities.. |4. Front desk receptionist is unfriendly and no smile. Cleaner ladies are more friendly than receptionist|5. On our 1st day of arrival, flush is not working. The cleaner told us how to use magic touch to flush their toilet|6. We stayed in Rm 303 and you can get food cooking smell to your room daily.|7. On 4th day, we are awaken by a very pungent urine smell. Smell came from outside the room till we can smell it on the lobby. Totally digusting...When we make feedback, the response is that this is normal smell and they cannot smell it. I had to make few calls to get them to put a ioniser to clean the air... |8. Worst is the last day of our stay just before checkout. There is a rat appear in the bathroom. My daughter was on the way to restroom and get a rude shock. Again, we call the reception and they just came to room and open the bathroom door brainlessly. The rat just ran freely in the room 303 and hide below the mattress. We just took our luggage and checkout immediately. |I really pity whoever going to check in later in the same room. |Please really think thrice if you want to stay...
Read moreThis is a budget, no-frills hotel with just the basics. You get a nice-sized room, decently clean, but don't expect an alarm clock, full-length mirror, or any sort of view. On the upside: the room comes with a small fridge, free useable WIFI, and basic breakfast in a basement dining room (nothing great, but hey, there's eggs, and it's convenient). On the downside: the fixtures are pretty worn, carpeting is old, and the whole place is a bit dingy. If you are sensitive to smoke, beware: even though the rooms are supposed to be non-smoking, plenty of people seem to smoke here. Staff seemed alright -- no one was exceptionally friendly, but we found them to be helpful and accommodating -- the nicest was the breakfast lady. ||||We asked for a double, but got two beds pushed together. We stayed in 201, which was near the kitchen exhaust. This meant that our room smelled like a greasy kitchen every morning at 6 a.m. The shower head in the bathroom had broken off the main fixture, so they decided to treat it as a handheld instead. Water pressure was great and hot water was ample. ||||The main thing that's going for this place is its location, a brief walk from the Zhongshan Elementary School MRT station (Take Exit 1). It's also near a local street market (get the chicken rice in the evening!). And the rate was reasonable. It's fine if you're out all day and just want a place to...
Read moreLocation is great - around 1 minute from a good street market (turn right out of hotel) and most of the stalls there are welcoming to foreigners, unlike quite a few others we saw in Taipei. The nearest MRT is Zhongshan Elementary School (yellow line) less than 5 minutes away - exit 1 from MRT, walk forward and Shuangcheng is the 2nd or 3rd right hand turn.||I really liked the breakfast - very good tofu and I don't normally like it. Aside from toast and some scrambled egg the breakfast is Taiwanese so don't expect an American one or anything like that.||Rooms are good size, WiFi was generally OK to good in the rooms. Good number of TV channels, great bathroom. Very clean.||The only issue was the laundry facilities - don't use the ones in the hotel as the dryer is rubbish and you have to use the hotel's washing powder and they don't give you enough. Turn right out of hotel, walk past the night market and cross the road. You will reach a self service laundry in under 10 minutes that is cheaper than in the hotel. I had to go there anyway, after 1.5hrs in the dryer in the hotel my clothes were still wet. The receptionist apologised as I dragged it all down to the laundry but didn't offer me my money back.||Generally great hotel with poor laundry...
